Question about DANSCO Jefferson Nickels album

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,834 ✭✭✭✭✭
Jefferson Nickels including Proof-only issues is a terrific album. My one concern is why it doesn't include openings for the PROOF nickels from 1938 to 1964. DANSCO puts out two Jefferson nickel albums (the other being strictly business strikes only).

It doesn't seem complete not including these additional proof coins. Seems arbitrary to pick up in 1971- forward.
Any collector of the series, or anyone know why DANSCO set this album up this way?

Thanks!

I think it is consistent with the way all of the "including proof" Dansco series albums are. I have the one you speak of and the Lincolns including proofs, and they are both the same way. I am wondering if anyone knows whether or not they have a new page starting with 2012 to insert into the Jefferson album, and if so, will it fit. My album is full and it is the heaviest one I own.

I asked that question a few years ago to a DANSCO worker and got the answer that the reason why they didn't add the early proofs and even the SMS coins was because the early proofs were very limited and the goals for the sets were to have as many people be able to complete the books. He also told me to get a blank page and add them to the back of the book.

    Ultimately, I think it's a money issue.

    Hope this helps...

You just might want to get an extra Dansco nickels page, or two, for those proofs. Dansco makes extra blank pages for nickels.

It seems like this set up covers all year/mm combinations with no duplicates.

If they added 38-42 proofs, the SMS coins, or 68s/69s/70s proof with would break that "logic".

    Answers sound reasonable.
Thanks for the input, I feel better about this now.

I would guess it's because there are mint state examples of the earlier date/mints (pre 1971) but not of the later dates.
  • The DANSCO Roosevelt album does not have a place for the 1950 thru 1955 proofs either. My better half was given a 1954 Cam PF many yrs. ago and when she found no place to put it, told me that she wanted the rest of the early PFs. I have as much or more in those few coins than she has in the rest of her set.image

Also, I have been told by a dealer friend, who carries all of the DANSCO products, that there is a new page coming out for the DANSCO Jeffersons with proofs albumn.
