Opinions on a Mays signature

I was wandering around the flea market near my house here in NJ, and came across an older man selling some framed 8x10's of various sports stars. Some were autographed. One was Willie Mays from ST in 1969. He wanted $5 for all the smaller photos, regardless of whether or not it was signed .... So I bought it - any shot its real? Either way, its only $5, which I have wasted in far worse ways image

Not an expert but it looks pretty good to me.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I'm not a Mays expert, but the upper part of the "W" is much higher/larger than usual. And look at the waviness of the top part of that "W" coming down... That usually means it was slowly drawn. None of the Mays auto's I've owned have looked like that.

However, to my untrained eye, the lower parts of the sig look good. If it's a more recent sig, that "W" would make since as Willie is gettin' up there in age.
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

Thanks. I figured I couldn't go wrong for $5 really.

    Any other opinions?

The W is what looked off to me too, but I've never owned a Mays auto and have no idea to the extent that his sig may or may not vary.

not sure how well this looks but I had my Mays signature authenticated awhile back and here is a photo.....only thing extra to add is that this was from back in the early 80's, I got it from the company Renatta Galasso who I know some of the old timers on this thread probably remember.....don't know if his sig has changed as he's gotten older......

The first thing I would do is make sure the autograph is ink-on-photo and not a part of the reporduction of the photograph. I have seen many 8X10's at flea markets that are a reproduction of an already signed photo with the autograph as part of the picture. Make sure when you look at this photo you tilt it slightly in the light to see if you can tell if the autograph was signed directly on the photo or not.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
