Mars Attacks has become of my favorite non-sports sets. But, I only have a few PSA7 graded '62 cards. There seems to be very few for sale in the grade I'm looking for these days.
I wonder what the impact of the reprint will be on the prices of the '62 cards?
<< <i>I have four boxes on the way! I'll post a breakdown soon, if anyone is interested.

So -- impressions --
The base set is so great. Wood, Powell, Saunders -- just fantastic to see all the cards in their glory. The cardstock is nice and thick, too.
The deleted scenes are interesting, some more amusing than others. A couple are kinda too bloody, I think. Overall you get a ton of dupes on these, perhaps they should have been more rare.
The New Universe cards just don't do anything for me. They're too dark (not in subject matter, but in palette). The classic cards are a candy-colored apocalypse. These new universe cards are too black and grey. They're also a bit cartoony for my taste.
The colored-borders are an annoying gimmick, and I wish Topps had devoted the space to something else.
The 3-D cards, however, are pretty cool. I have dupes of all but #4, which I was only able to get one of.
As far as the sketch cards go...well, I don't want to say Topps pulled a bait-and-switch, but the sketch cards in the promo materials were alot more polished than the ones I got (and the ones I've seen folks posting online). Also, where's the color?
There are some pretty cool ones on eBay, though. I just think the quality of the sketch cards is all over the place.
I also think my noobishness about "box breaking" came into play and I was expecting more bells and whistles than there actually were. (Perhaps I also didn't realize just how many dupes I'd be buying. Live and learn.)
My advice would be -- buy one box for a complete set of the common cards, then search out the extra stuff online.
Here is another favorite I got sketched by Van Davis:
All four of my cards were done in black&white. Of the four, the Proctor card is my favorite. I was really hoping for a color sketch, perhaps I'll pick one up on eBay.
(I'm not sure how to insert an image here...let's see if this works...)
You did really well considering they are black and white. I personally like B & W but it seems like many of the artists used it as an excuse to not provide much detail in the sketch. At least yours shows talent.
Here is an artist proof from Jeremy Treece I picked up on Ebay. My understanding is that each artist got back 6 return cards that they could sell on their own to make money.
This is what he wrote in the listing:
"Up for grabs is one of my Artist Proofs / Returns from the set. You will notice my proofs are hand labled on the back just to insure the authenticity of the card. The amount of cards I did in black and white it would be easy for someone to just color it and sell it for something it was not. For the set I only did one color headshot of a Martian, so now is the opportunity to score a full color render of the Mars Attacks Heritage illustration from Topps. Hope you dig it, and happy bidding."
That Treece card is also pretty cool!
But I'm afraid I have to ask...what is an Artist Proof, exactly?

Each artist got 6 cards back from Topps that the artist could sell on their own. So I think for artist proofs they spend more time on them, thus top of the line artistry.

Very nice! Did you pull those from packs or did you have to buy them? Those are great.
How did you get the artist to commission that? may I ask what it cost? Can others do that with that artist or other artists for mars attacks?
