need help on 1976 topps fb rack pack header card, what does it look like?

hi, need help does the 1976 topps fb rack packs have a just red header that reads 42 cards for 49 cents. and i have seen one that has a color like version w/ the letters on header in different color's read the same 42 cards for 49 cents, but was like the 1977 racks?
are they both legit racks, did topps use both for 1976? the one i am looking at buying is just like the 1975 topps fb rack header. i have seen other 1976 topps fb racks w/ the new styl header like in 1977 topps fb rack. are they both legit? thanks for the help.

need help on this are both of the header cards used on the 1976 topps fb rack packs, the 1st header is red and says 42 cards 49 cents , just like the 1975 topps rack header. the 2nd one is like the 1977 topps fb rack packs, its more white and green i think? it says 42 cards for 49 cents . are they both ok? i know this is the year that it was between the 2 different header cards on the rack packs, 1975 has the red one and 1977 has the white, i have seen both on the 1976 football racks, the one i am looking at buying a few of has the red header in the 1976 topps fb rack packs, is it legit? thanks for the help
  • Ok topps used some odd methods back in the days when they had close-out sales at the end of each year to detour that merchandise from getting back into the regular retail market
for example they painted those ugly exes on boxes, packed current year cards in past wrappers and so on, in 1976 for whatever reason they flip-flopped headers on baseball and football
for the closeouts of each, unlike the 1975 header when baseball and football look the same BUT have different code numbers,,the 1976 headers have different looks but have the exact
same code number, see pics basebal top/football bottom.

i appreciate the help, the packs i am looking at buying are the 1976 topps fb racks w/ the red header and on the back the guy said the offer expires on 12/31/1976, i am spending a fair amount of $, so i just want to make sure. so it sounds ok to you then? i appreciate it, have a good one, let me know, thanks, scotty
  • here is the code that is on the racks that i am looking at buying, seller just sent it to me. its (1-918-93-01-5) i see it ends with the 5 for 1975 but, i guess they used those in 1976 also, the racks have lots of age i can see for sure and the headers are not punched, but? thanks again, scotty

I don't collect football unopened, but I believe that product code was used on headers for 1975 FB racks--not sure if they used them again in 1976 or for any other issues.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • hey, thanks again, if anyone else knows please post it for me , i need to know if topps used the 1975 fb rack headers on 1976 topps fb racks??? please let me know, thanks
  • The header with the code (1-918-93-01-5) was created for the 1975 topps Hockey and Football racks the code for normal 1976 FB racks is (1-034-93-02-6)
and BB racks (1-034-93-01-6) used in close-outs i call those FREAK RACKS ok for opening but not collecting,,, now if i see racks with 1975 headers it
would raise a big red flag for me and would require a closer look that unless thy're dirt cheap i wouldn't even bother BUT that's just me!!!

  • jose, thanks alot, i would post the pics so you can see the pics i was sent, because the lot i am thinking of buying is for 34 of the 1976 topps fb racks, i am not to good w/ computers but let me see if i can post a pic of them? thanks again, i really need to make sure they are not fakes and spending $2000 on them? scotty
  • jose, let me know if you have a minute i can send them to your email, if you dont mind, let me know, thanks again, scotty
  • jose, one last question , if you know. you know how topps in mid 1970's and later 1970's in the fb and bb cello's i have a lot of legit cellos with a wrong # on them and psa graded them fine? like a 1977 topps fb cello that has a 1975 topps fb cello wrapper and same with a 1975 topp fb cello and it has a 4 for last # so its a 1974 cello wrapper? lmk, thanks again, scotty
  • Scotty,
me kooking at pictures is not going to help! 1976 fb racks at just under $ 60 ea would be the THE FIND of the last 2 decades, SOUNDS FISHI, if you still want to go ahead pay $200 for 3 racks check the seals then you open them
and check the cards for condition and stars,, after opening over 1000 packs in my day i never seen less than 3 stars Hofs or rookies out of each rack, if by a freak chance the look legit then you can take a chance on the rest,,
just remember counterfeiters prey on the innocent and greedy bargain hunters.
  • thanks again, ill let you know what happens, i appreciate it, scotty
