None Graded at PCGS Yet...but I have TWO - 1940-S FS-901 Mercury Dime

I may have posted one of these before but certainly not both of them together. It is my understanding that another collector has recently shipped an example off to PCGS but the package is taking an extended tour of Kansas for some reason....since his will likely be the first graded at PCGS, they will probably photograph it for Coin Facts...at least that is my guess. We will see.

Mercury Dime - 1940-S FS-901 (CONECA DDO-002 paired with CONECA DDR-001)
Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling.
Pick-up Points: Date(easiest way to spot it), IGWT, Designer's Initials on Obverse and on the Reverse it is easiest, although still difficult, to see the doubling on the TOP edge of the ax/fasces...although the CPG says ES of STATES on the reverse...really tough for me to see but it is there....and the CPG also notes the upper leaves and top right branches...but holy cow you have to know what you are looking for....with a 20x!!!

So, in the wild, it is easiest to pick these out by looking at the date. If the date is a match and you have a late die state with the die crack on the obv from 6:30 at the edge moving diagonally up through Liberty's neck then you are golden. If the date is a match and it is early die state then flip the coin over and look at the top edge of the ax(and fasces). That's the easiest way to ID the variety.

First up is an example that I got off of eBay. It was in an ANACS MS66 Holder attributed as a DDO. I gambled that it would be the FS-901 and it was. image This example has the characteristic DIE CRACKS on the obv and rev(through the first A in AMERICA down into the field) and then a couple of other small ones. The example that the above mentioned collector has also has the die cracks. He has seen photos of mine and says his will grade higher. We might have to work out a trade if that is the case... image

Next up was a RAW SLIDER that I Cherrypicked at a show. Notice this example is of the earlier die state (lacking the DIE CRACKS) and also has Full Bands.

If anyone can locate a high Mint State Full Band example for me, I would really appreciate it....such as a 66FB or higher. This variety is new to the CPG but I have a feeling there might be plenty of them out there if you keep your eyes open.

For the Mercury Dime Series...
I am still looking for the following 6 in Mint State, preferably FB:
1934-D/D FS-501
1941 DDO FS-101
1942-Inverted S FS-501
1945 DDO FS-101
1945-D/D FS-506
1945-S/S FS-503

I am also ALWAYS looking for UPGRADES! image Please let me know if you can help.

I don't know but I sure wish he had a camera and the knowledge of how to use one...or maybe he should buy THE BEST DINO-LITE AVAILABLE with THEIR BEST STAND so as to easily take pretty good photos along with close ups of the varieties. image I can't wait to buy one so I can get better images of the varieties...such a cool toy!

Very cool variety. Looks like tripling on the date to these eyes.
