Off Topic but my daughter won a contest

Out township had an 8th grade contest for the DARE program. The students were to design a button to be distributed at the township's Pride Day.

Well we received a phone call that she was one of the four finalist and the wiiner would be announced at a townshoip meeting. We attended the meeting and then they announced the fourth place and third place winners and did not hear ner name. We figured this was great that she came in at least second. We were delighted when they announced second place and it was not my daughter. She was very happy to win especially when she received an award of $150.00. She plans on spending it on designer clothing as she is set on being a fashion designer and living in New York.

Here is the button.

Very nice Bob. Congrats to your daughter.

To keep it card related, she could have added another small sentence at the bottom:
"and then spending twice as much on an item on eBay than it is worth". LOL

DARE is a wonderful program. When I was in school, my 6th grade class was the first to try it and it was full year-long program - 1hr a day, like a normal class. Not all school systems still do it. Wish they did. Out of probably 200 kids in my graduating class, less than 5 had any serious drug or alcohol problems later in life. At our 10yr reunion, the topic of DARE came up and we all were stunned at how effective the program had been for our class.

    edited for grammar only.

Thanks everyone. Yes the program is excellent. My daughter also won the 5th grade DARE essay writing contest. My daughter had selective mutism as a child and somewhat now. Basically it is a fear of speaking to people. Well, she had to read her essay at an assembly in front of the entire 5th grade class and the parents, the Mayor, and several other politicians and police officers. We were stunned as she read the essay. There was no fear, no errors and she read it like she has been reading in public for thirty years. That was an extremely proud moment in our lives.

Pretty cool button...but what, no autograph?

I've always considered DARE a complete joke. I imagine local organizations such as this can be much more effective.
