I usually scan at 300 for Ebay, 600 for CU.

Agreed Zep. I should have mentioned that. I am NOT a collector of modern cards. The few I had that I scanned did not turn out well.

I use 720 for my top end cards and then scale back the file size a bit without losing the clarity even under magnification. I use an epson v500.

I have been using a Canon CanoScan Lide 90 scanner for about four years. Got from NewEgg for about $70.

It's a great scanner, raw and modern cards look nice @ 600 dpi. I tone down the output size to about 60-75%, otherwise the file sizes would be 6-10 mb. The only gripe I have is that it isn't that great with graded cards. Scans look a little washed out.

Rugged too; I've knocked it off my desk a few times and it still works great.

Exact same scanner here, and my results are the same. Graded cards, especially BGS/BVG, don't scan well, but otherwise it's been a real war horse.

  • Thanks For the suggestions.
My buddy lent me a canoscan lide 25 - it did a decent scan of some graded cards at 600 dpi but took about 6 minutes. I'll try playing with image size.
