A Fun Little Project

I have always wanted to build some of my favorite 70's sets, but have trouble spending so much money on common cards. So I decided that I would build the sets with just the HOFers + Pete Rose, Thurman Munson and any other key cards that I wanted to add. I just wrapped up my 75 set, which I decided to put into my card case on the wall in my office. I had so much fun doing this, just wanted to share the end product.

Very nice! Those colors really pop out. Looks like a piece of artwork!
  • That's a very nice display. I'm with you on not building sets all in PSA holders.
I can never imagine over 500-600 holders sitting in a room for just one set.
Just buying those star cards and displaying them is good enough for me, and then possibly keeping the rest of the set raw.

    Sweet display Matt!
  • Neat! Thanks for sharing. I love the '75s.

Are you happy with your case/display? If so where'd you pick it up?

Jake, Its a great case. I picked it up off EBAY. DPeck is the one that turned me onto the sellers. I will see if I can find the auctions, and will PM you the link.
  • Nice display. Fred Lynn isn't worthy? 1975 rookie of the year and MVP.

I keep the Brett and Yount in my safe, along with my more valuable cards. I will pull one more out to accomodate those cards. They are all way to colorful not to have in the case. I like the colors of the cards mixed together. I need to purchase those three cards before having to worry about it. image

Very nice, Matt. I too collect Hall of famers and it's interesting that you include Rose and Munson because I consider them HOFers for the purpose of card collecting.

Matt, this looks great! I have often thought about doing the same thing, it's probably the only way I could ever have the attention span to "complete" a set.

    +1

I tried to build the '56 set, and then decided that all that money I was spending on commons I could spend on guys that I actually know.

    That looks fantastic!

It is so nice to get to see your cards on the wall!

I have six of those cases now and they are a great buy.

Here is the item on EBAY. These guys are great to work with.

    Wow Matt,
Why didn't I ever think of that? I have been working on my 66-69 sets for at least ten years, of course lots of things to take my attention away from these sets. But I like the idea and the display looks great. I think I will collect my 1970's sets this way. Too late on all the money I have spent on the 60's stuff. Those hi numbers have been killing me, time, pricing, condition.

The wall of 75's is genious with the awsome colors and the player selection. Very cool piece to just sit back and admire. Great idea, Matt.

Nice display Matt. Good way to enjoy your cards.

Matt and Dave - I know the ad states UV Protected glass ... aren't there different DEGREES of protection? I will assume you do not let any sunlight hit the display case. Would the UV protection be strong enough to protect against sunlight? I would guess no. HOWEVER, is it good enough to protect against home lighting? How long have you had them in the cases?
    STAY HEALTHY!

    Doug

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

This is worth a bump, besides I thought (as a set builder) you should have these in numerical order.
