1979 Topps wax pack rip

Back in February, I purchased (among other packs) 2 1979 Topps wax packs through a CU BBCE group rip. I had opened one pack (and got an off center Ozzie) and held onto the other. I decided to open that pack today. The cards are really nicely centered and very sharp. Pulled this beautiful Munson out of the pack:

Nice Munson, I notice that a lot of the 79's have a slight tilt to the bottom border. Maybeit's my eyes though.

There is definitley some tilt on the card. Not as easy to notice at actual size but when it's blown up like this it stands out more.

Paul - One thing you cant see on the scan - there is a very small bubble on the surface of the card. I'm sure that would preclude it from getting a really strong grade.

Sharp card! The bubble may land it in a PSA 5 holder, though...otherwise, I'd grade it a solid 8.

    +1

Very nice card. Slight tilt, slight touched upper right corner and minor black dust on the bottom.

This card is VERY tough ... 593 subs and only 4 10s.

    Great pull! >>

I opened a 1979 rack box at the time, and still have all the cards. I went through them carefully, and I would say 90% of them have the same type of tilt as this Munson in varying degrees. Very annoying.

    Nice pull on the Munson.

I just ripped some wax packs for 75 and I was borderline for a while after. I had bought the packs to get graded and after a few beers started hearing a heavy Texan accent whispering to me. "it's me, card 500. I'm in this pack. No this one. No over here. I'm with card 20. Hurry!"

Before you know it I'm siyting with three off center Fred Stanleys and my 8th dick pole.

High grade or not you had a good rip. enjoy.

I know Paul will second me when I say that the 1979 Topps baseball set is one of the absolute toughest to put together in mint grade from unopened product. I open quite a few 70s baseball packs--mainly 1975-1979 with occasional 72-74 packs mixed in, and the card stock on the 79s is the worst of any other in this decade, imo. Centering is very poor, too, with only the 75 minis maybe being worse. High grade PSA 1979 cards are really undervalued, imo, when you take all this into account, though at least packs are inexpensive enough so that you can bust a few without losing your shirt..
