The word "racist"...(off topic)

OK, I know there has been quite a lot of racist comments to people on this site, and there has been other people claiming that others have been insulted by racist comments from others. I just felt like I needed to say something when it comes to this. Face it, people. You belong to the HUMAN race. African people are not a race, nor are Hispanic people, no more than Irish or Swedish people. The word "race" asserts that there is some fundamental difference setting a group of beings apart. And guess what – I don’t think all the melanin and darker plastids in the world can make you fundamentally different from me, or anyone else. It is not a difference, simply a function of the climate that the people you are descended from adapted to!!!

    There's something people forget about racism, and that's the definition of it. Racism by definition is thinking you are genetically superior to someone based on race..ie I would be racist if I thought I was better from a black person from the day I was born, just because white people have better or stronger genes, or if I thought it was in white people's gentic makeup to be stronger or smarter.
    However...when someone says "i don't like you because you're hispanic" or "I think you're a mugger because you're black" that is NOT a racist comment. Predjudice? Yes. Stereotyped? You bet. Sadly uninformed? of course. But not racist!
    It gets annoying to see people throwing the term racism around, when they have no idea how ignorant they sound. You want to see racism? Look at people in the Klan, who really believe God wants them to be the superior race. Thats some messed up sh*t.
    However, when someone is using a racial slur or avoiding people of the other race, it doesn't make them a racist, because that's their perogative.

    actually it depends,when people make racist comments its cause they are racist...it all fits in the same category and lead up to racism.....trust me i know this,i experiened this a lot in hign school

    I grew up in Detroit being one of a few white people in my area (Pontiac). I was one of three white people on the bus I took to school (the others being my brother and sister). I caught a ton of crap and was harrassed
    daily. I don't blame a whole race for the crap I encountered, just the a-holes that screwed with me. I had no
    other choice than to have friends of different races. I also lived in Okemos (predominantly white, although next to Lansing) and saw the opposite happen to some of my black friends. All it comes down to is that kids can really suck and some of them never grow up. I don't dislike any particular race, just people. Whether white, black, hispanic or jewish, if you screw with me you're on my turd list...image

    battier, it doesn't "depend." racism is not a subjective term, where everyone gets to ake up their own idea of it. It has a set definition. If someone doesn't like someone else because of their color, it may be pretty damn close-minded and stupid, but it isn't racism.

    dirtmonky, if I think someone cannot be trusted because they're black, thats a steretyping. If I think I am inherently better than them, thats racism. There IS a difference, and you'll sound a lot more intelligent in everyday conversation if you know it.
