Pretty cool. It seems like no one steals more then about 50 bases in the MLB in a year anymore. Where did the Vince Colemans' go?

I went to the teams' webpage and here are his full stats by the way:

Player POS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG OPS E
    Billy Hamilton SS 79 322 74 104 17 9 1 29 142 48 63 100 21 .413 .441 .323 .854 24

With the advent of Sabermetrics and the like, savvy ML teams figured out that anything less than a 75-80% success rate was actually a negative. That, coupled with the "Chicks dig the longball" mindset, really killed the art of base stealing as a major weapon.

Well ... this kid is currently at an 82.6% successful steal rate ... so I guess he's OK for now! image

24 errors? Full season that works out to costing his team a bunch!

Minor league stats are a crapshoot anyway, but errors are without a doubt one of the least-meaningful given the quality of some fields. Best I recall, Bakersfield may be just an notch above a gravel parking lot.

Looking at the other SSs in his league, he has the 3rd most errors per game, out of 10. But, there's a lot more to fielding than just errors. A SS with a lot of range will tend to make more errors than a SS with poor range (cough...Derek Jeter...cough).

How ironic, Billy Hamilton is the same name as the old timer in the Hall of Fame, who also was famous for stealing bases.
