1200 Reis for your enjoyment.

As the Darkside pulls me closer, I am becoming fascinated with some interesting coins, countries and histories. I purchased a group of world coins to study and go through and found several super cool coins. I sent a few in with my club submission and recently got the grades back. All of them are details grades, but, for the mintages and short series, they are pretty neat.

1834 1200 Reis, mintage - 891

1843 1200 Reis, mintage - 1,803

1847 1200 Reis, mintage - 10,000

For those that don't know, the 1200 Reis series has 9 coins.

1834 - 891
1835 - 10000
1837 - 6304
1839 - 186
1840 - 633 (includes a 40/37 overdate)
1843 - 1803
1845 - 292
1846 - 1898
1847 - 10000

Total mintage for the series is 32,007.

That is about the extent of my knowledge (as of right now) of the series. But, reading about different countries and understanding the symbols, meanings and historic figures/events portrayed on the coinage of a particular country is quickly becoming my numismatic focus.

Very nice. The entirety of silver coins from the cruzado series of 1834-1848 have ridiculously low mintage numbers. Hard to imagine an entire series spanning more than a decade having mintage numbers more often less than 1,000 each year than over that, but they just weren't demanded.

Beautiful pieces; that is the first time I have seen that design. The low mintages are quite amazing given the length of the series.

    Thanks for sharing!

Ditto. Watch the market on these in the next few years.
