Have you seen anyone collecting PSA OC cards?

I collect more for the enjoyment than investment (although I do catch myself looking occasionally at how my cards are growing in $$). I like most it seems here hold centering as a critical issue in my card collecting and have avoided purchasing a card many times on eBay as it is labeled OC. However today while crusing eBay without the intent to purchase, I noticed a HOF football rookie card from the 70's who's PSA 9 OC card goes for about 1/8 of what the PSA 9 card sells for, it got me to thinking (and I know this 1/8 the cost is not proportional for all OC cards). You can build a really nice collection of high end cards for an amazing price if you decided a little OC is ok.

Does anyone here (or do you know anyone), who has built a nice high grade OC set for a fraction of the high grade price?

I sometimes buy off centered cards because i dont have enough money to spend on really nicely centered cards. It doesnt bother me as much as some people.

PSA Pro Football HOF Rookie Players Set Registry- (Currently 19.80% Complete)

I think it depends on the card.

Cards from the 1980's to today, I would not buy a OC, MC or any other issue.

Cards from the 1970's and earlier are known for centering issues. So, on rare cards OC is OK. The 1979 Topps Ozzie Smith Rookie is almost impossible to find centered.

  • Good point about era. Most of my collection is pre 80's with only a couple of cards from the early 80's.
  • I have built a high grade mostly OC set of Al Kaline cards. MUCH more affordable.

  • I was getting really bummed out getting 9 OC cards back from PSA - stuff I got in lots and thought they had a nice shot - but then I realized they are a good way to fill sets even if interim. I have a beautiful Brett rookie that's 9OC and it's only off a hair. I didn't pay much for it raw so mabe that helps. I think it depends on how OC it really is.

Nice cards Bob, in my mind those are awesome cards. Just because the cut is off, the color, white borders and look of the card is great.
  • I bet the 75 mini busters have plenty
