VINTAGE Sports Card Store Film Footage and Interview

Well, maybe not so vintage in terms of cards, but kind of old in the development of the hobby store.

My son found a VHS in the basement that had an 11 minute segment from 1991 by a local junior high school, that ran a public affairs program, that includes an interview with me and film footage of my store's first location.

A lot has changed since 1991, so if you want a blast from the past, check it out:

That was a great video! I was 15 years old in 1991 so that was some of my fondest memories from my childhood collecting days. Thanks for posting it!

Cool video Michael, brought back lots of memories. I owned a shop from 1989-1994. You did an awesome job with merchandising too, very neat and organized. How many square foot did you have there?

I like the rack pack price board. The ups and downs of the hobby with the prices that were listed. Of the singles on the counter, I didn't see any in PSA 10 quality condition image

The original store was about 20 x 20. I was there for the first few years, then I moved into a different spot in the same plaza that was 800 square feet with a full basement.

I was there until 2006, when there was a fire at the other end of the plaza (luckily I was not affected), which prompted a fire inspection, and the fire marshal said the building was not up to code. The landlord did not want to put the money into the plaza (he owns several other businesses, including some Dunkin Donuts franchises), so he evicted everyone and leveled the building. Six years later, it is still a big parking lot.

I moved to the next town over at the beginning of 2007, which is where I am now. I wish I was still as neat and organized as I was in this video, but the plethora of stuff that has come out in the past 21 years and the accumulation of acquisitions over the years has made my back room into a disaster zone. The front is still presentable, though.

Good memories. The zoom in on the set pricing shows just hot and crazy collecting was at that time:

    87 Donruss - $85
    86 Donruss - $190
    84 Donruss - $375

They were the internet stocks of their day.

That's a fantastic video! It definitely brought back some great memories. I would have loved to of lived near your store!

By the way - you were a great interview. As mentioned - I think we need to do an update video with your current location.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I think I may have purchased cards from you in the '90's. Did you advertise in SCD selling team sets and inserts?
