Roger Staubach rookie PSA 8

It's been a while since I've seen a nicely centered PSA 8 rookie show up on ebay.
Now two of them pop up one right after the other.

Which card do you think is the better looking one ?

4SC

    probstein has a better scan

Both look OK, but hard to tell too much with no back scan for either card, and the 4sc card seems to be sitting crooked in the holder and the scan itself isn't very sharp, even when blown up. It comes down to do you want it now for $500, or do you want to roll the dice with what the Probstein may go for? Dropping $500 on one card without a back scan makes it a pretty tough call either way.

I would go with the Probstein one if you wanted one. You should be able to get it under the $500 price.
  • we added a back scan...

  • I think going after the probstein one makes double sense.
A little better centered, and probably a bit cheaper, and the 4SC one
    may still be standing afterwards.

+1 for Rick adding the back scan, nothing hiding there

Sounds like the prudent decision above, work on Rick's card, and use the 4sc as a backup plan...it still would be nice to have a focused front and back scan of the 4sc card
  • Both look like nice cards

Wow - This card has really heated up lately.

The $500 BIN was snapped up, and the probstein card will likely surpass the VCP record of $655.

Although not centered 50/50, glad I got mine in November 2010 for what I thought back then was a whopping $345

No disrespect, but Probstein card looks rough on the corners. I have 7's with better corners. WOW.

Did you try looking at it under that kind of magnification? I'm noticing a trend where the PSA grades on Probstein's auctions seem to fall under special scrutiny, and I think a lot of it has to do with his choice to pay for large images. He provides some of the nicest imagery, and that tends to show more flaws that 90% of the collectors wouldn't think twice about. Of course, it doesn't seem to hurt his bottom line any, he still manages to pull some of the best hammer prices. Just a thought.
  • I agree jeffcbay.

Also want to point out that he'll compliment shagrotn's Staubach under little magnification, but will point out the other one under high mag.

Rick's card has two mint corners, one NM-MT corner, and one Nr-Mt corner, on top of very nice centering.

  • BTW, that is a very nice card shags, and congrats to Rick on a new vcp record image
  • Makes me wish mine from the group rip was centered better

  • It appears that whoever bought the 4SC card got a great deal, even though I thought there was a little bit of a tilt on that one.
I felt the centering on the probstein card was better.
  • my consignor must be pretty happy on this one....

I have two 10x loupes by Konus. top 20 in Registry on 1972 FB Have three raw sets and am build too slowly. I would love to see shaq's under more magnification. I just was making my opinion known. I would think straight up Shaq's would be better than Prob. no disrespect intended. I have a 6 that has really nice corners. i am a corner freak. See you guys at the national look for the bald guy with the loupes. will be hanging with Phil Regli (Mr. Paper)
