Does an "unopened tobacco pack" with a t206/t205 exist???

Was looking over some t206 and t205's on eBay the other day and wondered if there were any legit chewing/smoking tobacco pouches/bags/etc. that were still originally sealed with a tobacco card inside. Talk about an ultimate unopened product!!!!

Anybody know????

they usually look like crap though, and the card is done.

I can tell you that 99% I've seen for sale on eBay or in auction houses are not correct packs for cards (the majority not even being the correct year). In the last 15+ years I've focused on collecting cigarette packs related to the distribution of baseball cards, I've encountered maybe 10 or so unopened packs that legitimately had a chance of holding a card.

I would encourage you to check out my website www.baseballandtobacco.com to read more on baseball related cigarette and tobacco packs.

I should qualify my statement... I was shown a photo of the pack that is purported to be the one being raffled off. The pack I was shown was absolutely wrong year and 100% no card inside. If someone has a definite picture of the pack up for raffle, I could date it.

A very good friend of mine bought a box of them which had I think 23 packs back in 1980. He sold those packs at a card show for $900 a pack and kept two of them. He saw a green Cobb pulled and a red Cobb but the other two was kept up until six years ago. He sold one to a doctor out of Kansas and another doctor out of Arkansas. To my knowledge both packs are still intact.

Here, for example, is an Obak pack with the corresponding card that was pulled from it:

One more... A SUPER rare Lone Jack cigarette pack with its original card (which deteriorated after 100+ years). Unfortunately, not baseball.

WOW!! Thanks for the replies fellas......I've never really looked too hard to find one. I figured the tobacco would be hard on the card after 100 years of being together...

sdsalez & canjond, I will check out your links....appreciate it!! And great pics as well.....

Please remember, even if you get the right kind of pack and the right year, there is no guarantee that it holds a card. And, if it does hold a card, the odds of it being a baseball card are slim. There were many non-sport cards inserted into tobacco packs of the period (fish, fauna, etc...).

Jon C. is the expert on these tobacco pack... good to see him chime in.

I was the original owner (collector owner) that bought the 1909 T212-1 Obak pack with card pictured above. It was not unopened, but was still complete and the T212-1 card shows obvious age staining evidence of being in contact with the box, slider, and cigarettes for nearly 100 years... very cool pack and always love to see the pics image

the prob with 1910 Era packs, is there are so many other types of cards/premiums that can be found in them, not just T205/T206.... there are cards with birds, dogs, fish, flags, states, "Mutt and Jeff" cards, etc., not to mention, buttons, coins, stamps, silks. etc.

Like Jon said, most of these packs that are said to be from 1909-11 are not.... so the odds of a T206 card is 0% and thats not a good gamble IMO image
