Interesting artifact for Spanish colonial collectors and Pirate fans

I have been on vacation to out-of-the-way Atlantic Beach, North Carolina for a few days. Although I'm back now, I've been suffering from coin withdrawal. Luckily, though, there's some interesting history in the area, including the fact that Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, sank in the vicinity.

At the NC Maritime Museum, there's a late display of conserved artifacts, among which on will find this:

So this is how Blackbeard ensured his reales were...real!

    Pretty neat. I'll definitely add a set of Reales weights to my collection at some point. They do come-up for auction from time to time.
