1988 Fleer Basketball Wax Box

I just got a fresh 1988 fleer basketball box in from BBCE as a little present from my girl. I was going to rip it this weekend.

I saw a previous post about ripping this product but it looked like more drama than actual talk of the product (very entertaining thread though I must say). Has anyone had experience with this wax box? I know the set well and the issues with the individual cards but I was just wondering if anyone opened any from BBCE lately and if they yielded anything super nice. I've been on a little hot streak lately with my BBCE purchases, especially with basketball. I know there is zero chance of this box staying sealed. If anyone is interested in scans, I'll post after the rip.

I love that set. Those cards are really condition sensitive(especially Rodman and Miller among the rookies) with poor centering and lots of surface issues. I would love to see the scans when you rip it......GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

My experience is ripping a bunch, making team sets, and being unable to sell any, even the Bulls, for $1 each.

This was 20 years I guess I should add.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • Look forward to the rip, hope you pull some Gems!!

These boxes appear to be all or nothing. Lots of stars which is nice, but if centering is a problem in one pack my limited experience says it is a problem in all. If you get a nicely centered box you will do well most likely.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

I won three boxes from Huggins and Scott several years ago. Everyone told me they were no good, since I didn't buy them from BBCE, however, I pulled several Jordans out of the packs (I kept one box for myself, I sold off the other two). I have roughly half of the packs left. I took one pack to work, just because my coworker wanted to open a pack. He pulled a Jordan, and I subbed it, and it came back a '9'. I have yet to come across a Stockton rookie, and I am unsure of the sequencing, if there is any.

    crack that box
    give the pack a rip
    step on a crack
    break your momma's pack
when a wax box comes along
    you must rip it

    now rip it
    into sleeves
    stack 'em up

  • Thanks for the feedback. I plan on ripping it either tomorrow night or Saturday afternoon. I'll bring the good stuff to work for scans on Monday morning.

I fell in love with that set in the early '90s. Cold only afford single packs at a time at $10 a whack. Had great success and built 7-8 sets that are ????? somewhere
