Name the on thing that you like the most about grading with

PSA and one thing that you would change/aren't that happy about.

1) My favorite thing about grading with PSA is the way the OPC cards are graded. No trimming allowed, they must contain the original cut.

2) The thing i wish they would change is the way they grade "miscuts". If they card has not been altered in any way detectable and they cut was a little off it should not matter.

Let's hear your views.
Work hard and you will succeed!!

Is this why I see High Grade Gretsky RCs with fuzzy edges? I always wondered how some of the older OPC cards would grade with those edges. The reason I ask is I am currently researching the Gretzky RC to eventually buy a psa 8 or 9 (if i can save that much).

1.) I like the protection it gives the cards.

2.) I would like to see a holder that was more tamper evident. I hate how big BGS holders are but they are tanks! Surely PSA can come up with something that makes it very evident when a case has been messed with. And SGC is even worse in that regard.

  • 1 - I like that you can get more of an investment if you get a nice grade.

2 - I wish they would tell you why a card came back a 7 when it looks like a 9. I like that BGS does that. I also don't like that some of PSA's labels aren't always consistent, meaning the older ones look different.

    Protection for the card/authenticity/investment

Dislike---Labels have changed way too much. It's like someone could not think outside the box a little and know that scammers are loving this. They're waiting for another label change. Let me understand this. Let's put a $50,000 card in a holder with a certain label and change the fonts and everything regularly on these same $50,000 cards. Also, seperate subs on every little thing is really not customer friendly.image

I think PSA loves the label change because that makes us reholder our 50,000.00 card every 2 years to stay up to date. I wonder what that % is

    #1- Protection for card
#2-Cards in PSA holders always bring more money to the table when its time to sell

SGC Holders are by far the best looking for Vintage cards, something about the Green and Black gives it more of an older look.

As to wanting to know why the cards got a certain grade when sometimes the grades are all over the place....6, 7, EOT, 6.5, min size, 8.5

They are all human and have problems.

Here are why the cards got the grades they got.

    1. Didn't get some last night 6.5
    2. Got some last night 8
    3. Burnt coffee in the break room 7
    4. Delicious coffee in break room 8.5
    5. Hungry (don't spend much time and miss flaws) 8
    6. Not hungry 6
    7. Get handed a box of 50 1971 baseball at 4:55 pm 7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,8
    8. 18 yr old grader on vintage 6
    9. 40 yr old grader on vintage 8
    10. You're not 4 sharp....7,7,7,7,7,7,6, 5,5,6,7.5
    11. You are 4 sharp.......9,9,9,9,8,8,8.5,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10

Sorry folks; but these are generally the reasons. It's not rocket scienceimage

Q: How many PSA graders does it take to screw in a light bulb.

A: One. Unless the light bulb has a flaw. Or it might be a modern light bulb, so it goes to a different department than the one which normally screws in the vintage bulb. But, no one has the light bulb yet. It still needs to be logged in. For all we know, it might still be at Lowe's. Without the light bulb, it must be difficult to find the switch to the other light bulbs. Guarantee ya though, it shouldn't take anymore than 45 business days to screw in that light bulb, unless they're really backed up because they were at the Light Bulb Convention.

What I like the most: The fact that PSA started out on top and didn't rest on its laurels. Legit competition entered the fray, delivered some body blows and carved into its market share, but PSA regrouped and created separation once again with ingenuity and a lucid vision (e.g., set registry).

What drives me to drink: The perceived leniency when it comes to a palpable tilt. Can't tell you how many times I've glanced at a card (prior to noticing the grade) and within a nanosecond my eye test has processed deficient appeal. I then glance northward and see diez. Granted it's conceivable that a card of this nature could still remain within the established T/B and/or L/R ratio for a 10, but unfortunately that's missing the entire point, in my humble opinion.

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

What happend to the guarantee? If the card is mis graded do they offer vouchers still? SGC has one still?

I like PSA because they protect the card.

I dont like the thought that they dont have a guarantee like they used to? I am seriously asking bc that I really dont know anymore. I havent used it , but thats what sold me in the first place with them. But if they took it away then I might question why they did that.
  • I have only one suggested change:

I firmly believe there should be a designation for centering. If a card is centered, give it a star or a "c' designation or something. If nothing else, it's worth noting for populations, because I think it makes a world of difference in the numbers for a card, since some are almost never seen well centered. If there are, say, 40 PSA 8s of a particular card, but only 3 of them are centered...well that's awfully important.

I like the holders. They protect the cards well and they're nice and uniform. I also like that they're not too bulky like the BGS holders.

I dislike that the grading is so inconsistent.
  • Like: That theres always a label collector willing to give me crazy money for a "10" Then I can buy a nice 9 (which is the same card on any given day) and pocket the stupid money for more cards later.

Dislike: Those rattle trap slabs that put stress marks around all four corners and the ease with which the slabs can be breached and counterfitted.

Pros - Protects the card when I drop it (which happens more often the older I get image) ; Strongest resale values for post-war vintage
Cons - half point grading scale. If you submit a high end lot of cards from the same year, you get many 8s, some 9s and fewest 8.5s. How's that possible? If the lot is mostly Mint, you should get more 8.5s than 8s. If the lot is mostly NM-MT, you should get more 8.5s than 9s.
  • Like: Nothing

Dislike: Cheap, crappy cases; inconsistent grading.
