The 1852 Charlotte gold dollar has the second lowest production of the type 1 series at 9,434. Only the 1850-C is lower. This compares to a mintage of 41,267 for the most common 1851-C. Yet the 1852 sells for only a small premium over the 1851, making it a great choice for a C-mint type collection.
This coin is very well struck for the issue and shows a great deal of hair detail compared to most. The reverse has the diagnostic defect typical of 90% of this date, between the L and A. The obverse has a copper spot at 2:00. The color is nice with a fair amount of remaining luster around the perimeter. Looks better than a AU50. A nice looking coin and a good value at $1850 shipped. Check, MO, or PayPal + 3%.
