Little League Awards with Topps Vintage Cards

I am always trying to foster an interest in collecting baseball cards with my little league players. At the end of the season I gave out a few plaques I made up for some of the special players. Hank Aaron Batting, Brooks Robinson Sportsmanship and the coveted Mickey Mantle MVP award.

Why didn't you use a real '56 Mantle? (LOL) Very original. I'm sure the kids who earn them are very happy. Nice going.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Who won the Mario Mendoza Hole-In-The-Bat award?
What about the John Rocker Clubhouse-Cancer award? image

But, seriously, those are cool. When I was in LL, we all got wood plaques that had our picture and our batting stats on them.

I think it's a great concept, but why use players probably none of these kids have never heard of and use with players of today? I think Derek Jeter would be great for sportsmanship award, Pujols or Hamilton for the hitter award. Unless you're trying the teach your kids the history of baseball with the older players which I also think is an awesome idea.

    Once again love the concept.

Thanks for all the positive responses guys.

BPorter- thats true I did get some weird looks from the kids lol. I spent about 30 seconds giving a brief background on the player though, former home run king, human vacuum cleaner, etc. I was also hoping to spark an interest in the games history and maybe have them go home and google the player type of thing.

If I use modern players next year, Ill have to use some Heritage cards!

This is the ebay seller I used, I just asked them not to put a graphic on the front.
