Collecting Lebron James updated 2/20/13

I thought I would start this thread to see if there is anyone out there that wanted to talk about their Lebron James collections. Now seems like as good a time as any seeing as he's on his way back to the finals. I know that Lebron isn't loved by everyone but I'd prefer to keep this discussion focused on his cards. Thanks in advance.

I hesitated to collect Lebron's cards all these years because he has like 2000 rookie cards and they've always been pricey. I finally decided to collect some in the last year or so. I don't have an unlimited supply of cash so I have to keep my collection kind of narrow. Right now I'm focusing on a PSA rookie set (currently ranked #2) and I'm also collecting his first year or so of Miami Heat cards. The Miami Heat Cards that I have are raw as of now. I'd like to submit those to be graded sometime this year. A few of my 2002 and 2003 cards are BGS 9.5s that I will attempt to cross over to PSA 10. As of today my rookie collection consists of....

2002 Upper Deck Inspirations #156 BGS 9.5 (all sub grades 9.5 or higher)
2003 Bowman #123 PSA 10
2003 Bowman Chrome #123 PSA 10

2003 SI for Kids #264 BGS 9.5 (all 4 sub grades are 9.5)
2003 Topps #221 PSA 10
2003 Topps Chrome #111 BGS 9.5 (all 4 sub grades are 9.5)

It's gonna take me a long time to complete this set but what the hell. Any other insane people out there?

I just picked up a really nice 2003 Ultra "Lucky 13" in a BGS 9.5. I plan of switching that to a PSA 10 along with my Topps Chrome rookie. I really feel like that card is under-valued being numbered only to 500. Not to many in Gem mint condition as well. A lot of those seem to have corner issues. I'll post a pic when it comes in the mail.

I picked up his topps chrome rookie. Is it a SP? Its been consistently selling for around 60-80 bucks which seems a little high for a base card to me.. Wade,s chrome rookie sells for about 10 bucks.

Any value to the SI for Kids card?

I'm not sure if the Topps Chrome is an SP. I tried to look up the print run but I haven't been able to find anything.

That hotel Key is interesting.

The SI for Kids used to sell for a little more than it does now. On Ebay you can get a BGS 9.5 for $60 to $75. It's a nice card and it's one that might fall back into favor if he gets a ring this year. The card stock for those is pretty thin and the perforated edges make it hard to get in gem mint condition.

I recently picked up these 2 cards. I believe they are Lebron's first Miami Cards. 2009 Panini Season Update and 2010 Donruss Elite Promo. I'll post more pics once I get them graded.

My Lucky 13 GAI pictured above....is at PSA now. Hoping it makes it into a PSA slab. Update to come as soon as I get my July sub to pop.

Best of luck on that Lucky 13. I'll be sending my BGS 9.5 in to PSA sometime soon and I'm praying for a 10 as well. Mine looks pretty flawless so it shouldn't be a problem but I've beeen surprised before.

I'm having some scanner issues right now but hopfully I'll be able to add some pics soon.

Here's one I picked up today. I wasn't planning to buy this one but it was dirt cheap and it's one of his earliest cards. Kind of an oddball card but for some reason I like it.

It books for $150 raw but it's a card that I think is going to be extremely desirable as time goes on. It's numbered to 499 and it was a redemption so people won't be able to open wax to find more. I've been looking for this card for several years and I've only seen BGS 8.5s and some ugly 9s. True Gem Mints are rare, especially one that has these sub grades. Lebron has only 2 legit XRCs from 2002, this one along with the 2002 Finest #178.

My LeBron Lucky 13 GAI 9.5....came back from PSA as an 8. The GAI holder has a crack in it, right below the serial number on the back. When I cracked it out, the holder split badly because of the existing crack, and put a small dent in the surface of the card.......UGH!!!! I guess thats what I get for cracking it out in the first place. My Topps Chrome RC is off center, so I didn't bother getting it graded. I may look into getting another one soon. But I am a football guy, so it may be a while before I get bored enough to look into LeBron RCs again.

An 8? Ouch. I'm sorry to hear that. I still haven't sent my BGS 9.5 to PSA.
