Thoughts on Sports related topics posted on this forum... Cast your vote!

At any given moment there are about 30-50% of threads on this board that aren't card or memorabilia specific.

I know posting things for sale or advertising should certainly stay on the BST. But what are your thoughts on Sports related topics that aren't card or memorabilia specific being posted here?

I am more curious than anything. I will occasionaly post something about a player or team...IE: Bryce Harper, Jered Weaver when he was pitching like a machine and led to a no no, more recently two different posts regarding the NBA playoffs.

I like seeing others opinions, and sometimes the discussions get into cards and how an event will affect pricing. It's nice IMO to have that all under one roof.

Thoughts?

And let's keep this civil. Wait it is Friday and that might be a bit much to ask for as I am quite sure some beverages are in the process of being consumed.

Have a great night!

stuff like the Celtics/Heat series debate and the like, turns into card related content about Durant and Lebron cards, etc....as many of the other sports related topics often turn to. The first of the "prime" threads was great between Mantle/Mays and it was certainly card related.

I myself probably wouldn't open every thread if 12 threads were started on a random Tuesday night devoted to each and every MLB game, but that being said, I would certainly skip over the ones I didn't want to read. I get tired of all the butt pirates getting chapped over a thread that was clearly marked as OT or sports related when they could simply not open it but they choose to make arses of themselves by opening it and complaining.

    Are you seriously this insecure?

It was a smarta$$ comment on a thread. Get over it.

No issues, even if the thread does not eventually turn to cards, memorabillia, etc.

We are sports geeks. This should be a place where we can post about what we all love.

Yes Craig I am extremely insecure, I'm working on it though with several mental coaches, psychologists and a lot of uppers. It's a work in progress. You've inspired me to be the best I can be. I like reading smartazz comments especially when you post them, it's quite helpful, TY.

In all seriousness your not the first person to post that there is a sports chat forum in a thread. I've seen others post it occasionally on other peoples threads to So it just sparked an honest interest as to what everyone thought, and yes you helped create that thought.

Sports talk belongs in a forum about sports cards? Then what is the "Sports Talk" forum for?

I look at it this way: If I am on here reading about cards and missing something happening in the sports world at same time, I appreciate another poster starting a thread about it. In other words, it is "one-stop shopping" for me in this forum.

The board isn't nearly active enough for it to be a problem for me. If every thread I'm following is still on page 1, I don't know what there is to complain about.

I agree with Tommy. I do not read every new post that is started. If it interests me I will open and read. If I am not interested, I won't open. I don't understand why it is such a big deal......it's not something I really care to get upset or excited about. I prefer to focus my frustation on figuring out how to pay for my two daughters college and weddings. image

My sentiments. If I'm interested I read and if not, I ignore it. Doesn't seem like anything to get bent out of shape about. IMO

The only thing that bothers me is when I log off for the day and want to check back on a thread that interests me and I need to dig through the many topics, the search option fails me more times than not. Im a live and let live guy, like others have posted I dont open anything up Im not interested in reading.

I have given this considerable thought. If I'm sideline reporting and get my pick............it's Mark Grace circa '93-'94. Arms that let you know you're being held. And no batting gloves.

I say Lebron didn't like having to do it all by himself in Cleveland and come up short, so he goes to Miami where he has to do it all and will still come up short.

you are right about one thing though, I wish the alts and whomever "tattled" on me like a little girl to Julio Jones, would have the sack to own up to what they say or do. If I have a problem with you or wish to make fun of you then I'll do it to your face.

  • I'm not radically in favor of it, but not radically opposed to it either. Sometimes those threads can lead to SC & M discussions, as someone said earlier. There are many different types of OT threads around here; this is just one of the types. No biggie.

On a marginally related note, I cannot for the life of me comprehend why a new thread has to be started in the SC & M forum any time any person dies....... but if it must happen, I sincerely wish we could at least keep the "RIP" threads confined to people who had at least SOME connection to the sports world.

I quickly figured out that all new guys are considered alts.
  • To answer the question, I don't see anyone talking about cards in the sports talk forum or comics in the coin forum. Why would talking about sports in general in a CARD forum be any different?

I think talking sports in the sports cards & memorabilia forum is OK, as long as it doesn't push all the posts about slow turnaround times off of page 1. What do you think Walter?

    Hiya Mike

I'm on the fence on this one. As long as there aren't a ton of them? No big deal. I would rather they stay in the other forum only since they can result in a flame war.

All and all, I'd like to see more people sharing what they're doing in the hobby - their man-caves - new pickups etc.
