I honestly cant believe half of the prices I saw listed. But again, you are paying for more than the auto, you are paying for a small piece of time with the athlete. If it was just an emmitt auto on a card, ebay has the certified inserts for $100 or so.
I also think its kind of humorous for a $15 or more for personal inscriptions, usually of 5 words. Saw where Jenny Finch was going to be there, wonder if for that $15 I could get "Thanks for the Great Night" on there?
I just cannot justify paying that kind of money for any of those autographs. I would love to have signatures of all of those attendees but there is no way I am paying that kind of money for anyone's autograph. Certified autos can be had on Ebay for a fraction of the cost. I understand the fee entitles me to have an "interaction" with the athlete but paying that kind of money should mean they buy me dinner before any interaction!
<< <i>Cant believe Emmitt Smith is charging 249 per card. >>
And it will cost you another $179.00 for a 5 word pesonalization!

<< <i>Those are some crazy prices I think the Murray auto is most over priced. I can't imagine anyone standing in that line. >>
Murray is actually a popular autograph guest for multi signed pieces due to him being a member of so many "clubs;" (ROY, HOF, 3000 Hits, 500 Home Runs). He actually has a nice signature compared to a lot of other guys...

$99.00 for his autograph. A 5 word personalization will cost you another $20.00 and then if you want to take a picture with him, which they will print and hand you a 5x7 photo of the two of you ... ANOTHER $99.00. So a 5 x 7 photo of Eddie and you, signed "To Tim, Eddie Murray" will set you back $218.00.

<< <i>It didn't hurt that Murray played forever. >>
He may have played "forever" (21 years) but 504 career HR's, .287 lifetime BA, 1917 RBI (9th all time), 8 All Star selections, etc. speak for themselves...

I think its also neat that Cal Ripken Jr says, "Bring your own camera as Cal will take a photo with each person who purchases an autograph at no extra charge!"
From what I saw, he is the only one that will do this. A lot of people will take advantage of this. All athletes should act like Cal.

this is the reason for his pricing. People start new 3000 hit baseballs all the time and will eventually need Murray. To pay $99 for a single signed baseball would be pretty stupid. They can be had for far cheaper on ebay, but multi pieces drive constant demand and as IMF said, he's on a bunch - plus the 82 World Series stuff - and it's in Baltimore.
If you're standing in these autograph lines for the sole purpose of trying to turn a profit, then you're there for the wrong reasons. If these signers were charging less than what you could buy them for on ebay, then they would just be selling their autos directly on ebay themselves. Sure these prices are expensive, yet there are hundreds of people standing in line, and they sign for hours. The prices must be just right.

What actually ends up happening is that people get their picture with Cal, have it developed into a 8x10, then come back the next time he is signing and buy another autograph ticket to have these pictures signed.....(actually a nice business model, lol).

That's exactly my plan, but I can't go this year. I'm waiting for Ironclad to have another mail-in promo.
I pretty much collect only baseball HOFers. Some of them are a little off: Carlton seems high whereas you can get him through the Grace Fund for $29, Bunning is free TTM, Herzog is way too high ($10 TTM), Schoendienst is double what he should be charging,
Some are right on the mark, as they have been for a few years: Gibson, Brock (right around his normal show fee, but can be had much cheaper in private signings), Marichal is a little high compared to some of his prices on the east coast, Maz is a tad high but only does a few signings a year, Ozzie and Sutter are right around what they normally are.
Carew is right around what I normally see him at, and Fisk is a bit higher than normal (although keep in mind you can get him for $40 TTM with a donation to his charity).
Henderson, Murray, and Jackson seem right around their "normal" fee. The fee for Larkin looks like his "new-normal" fee, and Palmer is right around his normal fee....which is low for a HOFer.
Rice is just a tad higher than what I have seen him go for lately-Frank Robinson as well. Ripken the same (also keeping in mind that Cal will often do private signings for right around $75 mail in).
Earl Weaver is right around his "normal" price. Bench is a tad bit higher than he normally goes for (and he signs for $60 ttm). Jenkins is about double what he should be. I would be shocked to see very many people in his line. Kiner is a bit higher than his east coast appearances, but he is also getting up there in age. Lasorda is at what he normally goes for, but keep in mind that Tommy had been pretty rare in appearances prior to the past 2 years or so. Morgan and Perez are a tad bit higher than they should be, and Niekro seems a bit out of whack than his normal appearance fee (and $15 ttm).
Gaylord Perry is the same category as Jenkins; about double the price and again I'd be shocked if he had many people in his lines. Williams and Yount seem right around their "normal" fee. Just a tad bit high for Yount. He's usually in the mid $80s.
33 of the living baseball HOFers...not bad considering I believe there are 65 of them. And a future HOFer in Smoltz.

The National is in Baltimore so I bet a lot of Orioles fans will be standing in that line for his autograph even with a high price.

$428 for Emmitt Smith "Dancing With The Stars Champion." I MUST have it. LOL
