Worth Grading Scott's Chips Basketball Card?

Hi all,

Not really a sports memorabilia collector (except soccer scarves) so I need a little help here on getting item graded. i have come across a 1950 Scott's Potato Chips Lakers basketball card (Slater Martin). I realize these are quite valuable and am preparing to send it to PSA for grading, however the back of the card has been colored on. The area between the edge of the card and the text-box border looks like it was colored with magic marker. The front of the card is in decent shape. Color is good, no staining, couple of faint creases, corners still sharp. other than the marker, the back of the card is sharp and readable. My question is, does the marking on the back make the card ungradeable, I'd rather not spend the money to have it graded if it is considered altered or ungradeable. Thanks for the help

I think all the marking would do is cause it to be graded with a MK qualifier. There would be strong interest in the card, graded or ungraded, but I don't think getting it graded would add any value to the card if you're doing this to sell the card. The typical buyer for that would be a type collector who would probably pop it out anyway.

Yes, get it graded. Even if it is a PSA 1, it is definitely worth it.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

I agree. When cards are sold on ebay there is somewhat of an acceptance for PSA gradeds. You won't have to mess with the guy who claims the card was "not described as is", etc. It's worth it in just not having to deal with it. Most of these get graded anyway.
