I wish... (Things to do with funds made on coin sales)

I wish...

1. The government would somehow at least come up with a plan to stop us from going into debt further.

2. That they would set up an account to receive funds from commoners that would go towards paying off our current debt.

3. That it could be done honestly...

I would make payments every month until my last breath. I would begin with selling my collections and giving a portion of the proceeds.

What do you do when there is little hope?

I learned the hard way that bailing out my son every time he got over his head financially did nothing to teach him financial responsibility. Once the spigot was turned off he had no choice but to learn. So, no, I will not contribute voluntarily to reducing the national debt when the purse string holders will continue to spend unnecessarily.

Having worked at least 1 job at all times since age 14 I think I'm paying enough...too much actually. Giving them more monies, even if set up to knock down the debt as outlined, would eventually get borrowed against at least under guise of some 'necessary' spending. Waste.

Yeah, its a wonderful gesture, but they'll just spend that money too. We can't do it by enabling those that will spend it, without changing the pattern first.

I say 'them' and 'we' but its all of 'us'. We are all the same people and if in office, would fall into the same pattern. We are all part of it, and have enjoyed the good part of things in the ole US, without regards to the spending. I understand debt is part of business, but its gone too far.

More things have to go back to state, local, and personal responsibilities. We all have to volunteer, give up more, take on more locally, and come up with better and trimmer solutions. Businesses have to follow that model to survive these days. The question is, do we and the government even know how to, without messing up the balance and making it worst?

    Bingo!

Unless you work in a government job or a government-funded capacity. And therein lies the rub.

I pay my fair share, despite what POTUS thinks. I believe those in power should have their compensation directly tied to the financial stability of the Country they choose to oversee. But as long as those with the real power are special interest groups and not We The People, we are not going to make progress (btw opposite of pro is con so opposite of progress is congress - but I digressimage). Anyway until there is real campaign spending / fundraising reform it's all just smoke and mirrors. Although I still think we live in the greatest nation the world has ever seen and the good thing is we have the option to change those in power. Off the box of soap now. image

Like carew4me said, you are paying payments until you die......Taxes. In some for or another, you're making payments to Uncle Sam. It's the misuse and misdirection of these funds that has gotten the g'ment and country the way it is.

Like you, I wish they would put down the excavator that's digging a deeper and deeper hole and start looking for a front end loader to start filling it in. But as long as congress can spend without any immediate consequences seen, they will, and much.

They should give us the option to forgo our tax returns for direct payment to retire the national debt, then pay us back once that is done at a rate favorable to both parties.
