<< <i>So, there is only 1 of this card on ebay right now in the grade I want (9). A month or so a similar grade went for $265. This particular auctions is blatantly being shilled (see pic of curent leading bidder). Price right now is low $200s. I am willing to pay slightly more than the 265 at this time. But if the next legit bidder is only $250, I don't want to pay $280.
Its not a low pop card, 18 at PSA 9, but I don't know if I can wait for another to show up.

    What would YOU do?

Also, is there a way to report him?

    image >>

Sure there's a way to report him. The question is whether or not Ebay will do anything about it after you do.

Bid up to what you are willing to pay and don't go over if you want the card.

As for me I wouldn't bid on ANY card that seller sells after seeing that. Another one will show up eventually from a more honest seller.

Forget about reporting it. eBay doesn't care. Seriously.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

After the auction is over, please let us know what the seller's ID is.

+1. It creates higher fees and puts more to their bottom line.

Set your snipe. If it ends for what you were willing to pay - and it's something you want - who cares if it's shilled or not. Set your snipe and if you get it you get it. If everyone sniped we wouldn't have the shilling conversations.

Exactly. Never understand why experienced buyers still bid up the price on themselves.

I would not bid on it. Why support a seller who does this? Be patient and wait for another one.

    Let me get this straight...

There is a card on eBay that you want. There are 18 examples in PSA 9, this card being one of them. A month or so ago a similar grade "went for $265.". You don't want to pay $280. You are irked that it appears to being shill bid.

    Comments...

Does $15 really mean that much to you? OR, is the fact that it's being shilled really bugging you more?

If it were me, I'd not bid and wait for another time. I once waited over 3 years for a card and when it came up I put in a very generous bid, somebody put in a bonkers bid and won the card. I got over it quickly.

AND - but I don't know if I can wait for another to show up. Really?

I would never participate in an auction that I believed was being shilled. Playing their game only encourages and rewards them. I don't want any card that badly.

i said that if the next legit underbidder is $250 I dont want to pay 280.

yes, life changes coming soon, card budget going to NIL. And before this coming change, it was only $100 a month.

    I don't.

    Really!

Lastly, I don't begrudge anyone the money they have made/earned, but for someone like me, this card is a significant $$ addition to my collection and the $15 can affect whether I can get that once in 3 years card you mentioned. Even when its a $16 card like it usually is for me.

Am sure there will be a Second Chance Offer for the runner up anyway.... bid your number and don't sweat the shilling. If it was a BIN at your price, wouldn't you have already pulled the trigger?

In that case, you have your priorities all wrong...these are just pieces of cardboard, no more, no less. And that you don't get over things to well...your response "I don't" seems to me you have other issues as well.

Did you really think the board could give you the solution you seek? Or were you just looking for some Linus blanket to hang on to if this wonderful PSA 9 slips through your fingers? Better save that $200+++ for those life changes "coming soon".

You solicited comments, you just read mine.

Its not nearly as serious as your taking it. We are buying a house, moving and my wife isn't going back to work, so she can stay with our 20 month old. Funds are there for the Down Payment, and moving expenses, and emergency fund. As part of the give and take, my card purchases stop when we move, as do some of her extracurricular purchases. I decided this is one PSA 9 is something I wanted to enjoy until our situation allows for a card budget again.

And I said "I don't" because I dont start a set to collect if i cant complete it. And there are 4 player modern RC sets (mostly $5-15 cards) in which I need a few $5 cards to complete that I haven't seen anywhere in 3-5 years. So, yea, I do get annoyed when I got outbid on one of them a few months ago with a max bid of $25.
