<< <i>How many relic cards can Topps get from one bat? >>
Well at least with the normal "GU Bat" cards they can lie to us and use a fake piece of wood and call it that player's bat, but with the bat knob they're actually using that player's bat. Arod's bat knob even has the PSA/DNA cert sticker on it!

All of those and the one I would buy has that stupid sticker on it
Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards
With a few exceptions (ruth, cobb, gehrig, dimaggio, mantle and maybe 1 or 2 more) these cards will sell for more on the secondary market then the entire game used bat that was used to make the card would. That doesnt even count the 1000s of other cards they can make with that same bat.
It's nice to see Topps purchased the Jim Rice game model bat used by Tony Armas that was on eBay and used that bat for the knob with Armas' #20 right in plain sight. Fail.
Collecting anything Dan Fouts, Jim Rice, Chris Webber, Ron Francis & Coming Soon: Aaron Hernandez.

I thought the same thing. I also agree with jeffcbay, "stupid gimmicky" and "sad".
I would much rather see them put out a redemption card for the whole bat. I would like to see them do that with jerseys as well. Its really sad to see them cut up items from older players. I wouldnt want to be the guy running the badsaw to cut up some of the greats baseball bats or jerseys. It would kinda be like being an executioner.

I'd pay a couple hundred for a Will Clark bat knob card. I'd pay a lot less than that for a Will Clark game bat.
That might sound weird, but I'm a card collector, not a bat collector.
I've been watching a lot of these case breaks, and this is a very hot product IF YOU BUY BY THE CASE. You can really get the shaft if you just buy boxes.
I would love to own the Rickey Henderson bat knob when it is released, but I won't be able to afford the $1K+ that it will fetch. Catfish Hunter is an interesting piece also - I'm not sure why they chose to add pitchers to the bat knob collection. Oh well.
Ty Cobb is up now with a BIN offer of $7499.
What do you guys think the Ruth and Gehrig knobs will go for? If they ever make the eBay marketplace...
Those are ugly cards, in my opinion (just from an eye appeal standpoint, not counting the fact that they're ruining a complete bat to make a rare baseball card).
Personally, the modern bats I could care less for. The bats used in the sixties and earlier, thats a different story. Cutting up bats used my prewar players makes me cringe and I think is disgusting. The same goes for jerseys of the older players.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

For the common modern stuff, I say pass the band saw.
There are some sets they can't make, for everything else there's Topps.

<< <i>What would the Billy Ripken FF bat knob go for? Probably more than Ruths... >>
That would go for an insane amount. I wonder if that bat even still exists. That's probably worth more than the Brett's pine tar bat.
<< <i>What would the Billy Ripken FF bat knob go for? Probably more than Ruths... >>
Wasn't it proven that someone at Fleer altered the photo and that an actual FF bat does not exist?

Have you stopped beating your wife?
<< <i>Word is Keith O is buying these things up and paying strong prices too. >>
Yup, he paid $3049 for this one.
<< <i>How can you guys tell who bid/won on auctions - I thought eBay masked all bidder's identities now? >>
Yes, but if you know someone's ebay id, you can search in Advanced Search on all the auctions that bidder id has bid upon.
For example, here is the person in question
