Mr.Benjamin Franklin...

Just been thinking, isn't it ironic,Franklin, being the inventor that he is, (among other accomplishments) how close he was to inventing the "loupe". He did come close when he invented the bifocals. Inventing these it almost seems he (Franklin) was doing it for us coin collector's. To see the coins better. Comments?

    Hello,

What are we calling a "loupe"? The idea of a magnifying glass, like the one Stymie used in the old Our Gang episodes, has been around for some two thousand years? Also, I think the Dutch had a pretty good grip on this notion too in the 17TH century?

    Best wishes,
    Eric

    .
if you ever have watched the ten commandments with mr heston, you can see him using a looking glass for distance indicating egyptians used pieces of crystal and such for various purposes

probably would be surprising to find out many inventors got a lot of inspiration from 2000+ year old ideas

glad you brought this up as I need to remember that fact

now we can still give credit to most of these inventors for adapting and applying these technologies for modern purposes

Thanks LotsoLuck. It's actually a '51-S but the S doesn't show well in the pix. The toning and color are almost exactly what it looks like in hand.
