Topps 2012 Packs Increase? How Much Is Too Much?

I am not sure if this has been discussed before so sorry if it has been. Did Topps 2012 packs go up at your Target and Wal-Mart as well? I went to buy some Bowman & Archive packs and noticed they went up from $2.99 to $3.19 for wax packs and the rack packs went up as well. I can’t remember what they went up to but they where 4.99 in Charlotte, NC. I decided it wasn't worth it and put the packs down and slowly backed away.

    They went up in La Habra, CA too

    I guess they only went up only in NC & CA.

    They also went up in the St. Louis/St. Charles Missouri area.

    Kind of my take too. I can spend $10 for a nice vintage card or two that might grade great, or I can spend $10 on 3 packs and get about a 1% chance of pulling a card worth > $5.

    Well said, but I continue to buy this new stuff. Topps has too many sets, too many chase subsets, too many short prints, too much junk and everything is retro.

    Since Topps has a monopoly on baseball and a duopoly in football, I do expect prices to increase. I mainly collect FB and Topps is killing us with these fringe brands that basically have the same crappy autos (hello Bilal Powell and Kyle Rudolph!). Panini in football is even worse, at least Topps redeems autos in a timely manner. I'm still waiting for a 2010 Crown Royale redemption of Ryan Mathews.

    Costs go up every year and collectors demand more autos, so I expect prices to go up since I don't think the collector base is big enough to support any more product.
