In their prime: Rob Deer or Adam Dunn

With the recent comparisons of the all-time greats I figured I'd try a curveball and focus on "similar" non-greats
who still had the ability to meaningfully impact their team's W/L record.

So let's start with Deer versus Dunn. Neither of their guys could hit their weight (although both could easily
have their weight in number of strikeouts per season). Both could absolutely crush the ball.

So if you had to have a guy who was either going to strike out or homer in your line-up would it be one of these two
or is there another player you can think of who would be better in that role?

ROB DEER, I like my sluggers average to be the same as there strike out total.

I would take Dunn. He's gotta lot of Aw Shucks Jim Thome goodness to him, but that dude is huge. He has to get the intimidation factor. Plus he gets a ton of walks. I remember Deer being more on the David Wells side of the buffet, but I could be wrong.

Plus I got Dunn on my fantasy team.
  • Adam Dunn has career highs of 36 doubles and 128 walks (and 79 singles), so there were a lot of non-strikeout, non-homerun at bats going on

For an AL team, Rob Deer's best season isn't as good as an average one from Dunn. But Deer did have a few seasons when he was a good fielder, for an NL team might be a better choice than having to play Dunn in the field
  • I apologize to all of you having a serious discussion about this topic, but when I read the thread title I thought of this joke.

What's the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts ?

You can find beer nuts for around three dollars. You can find
    deer nuts under a buck.
