Crossover opinions wanted - no scans, just questions

I have, thanks to yet another great deal with Brett (ymarea), I have a few gorgeous SGC 96's ready to reslab. I've measured them over and over (no shorties except one that is 1/32 off), and they are all pretty much dead nuts centered (none of the usual SGC laxity on centering). None are high$, but all of them need to become 9's in my set.

I'm about to throw them together into a 10 card CC special this month, so it's not the most expensive experiment in the world, but I'd like to give myself the best shot at putting them in the right slabs the first time around.

So, opinions on cracking vs crossover welcome. I know the subject has been done before, but trends change.

I think you are good either way. On lower dollar commons PSA is a little bit less stringent during crossovers. On another note...if they are that high end...one might pull a 10 if submitted raw. You are using the $6 per card special?

We just finished a cross over submission this past week (10 day $10 service). 11 of the 14 cards were in BGS/SGC holders and all crossed. 7 of the crossed from BGS 9.5 to PSA 10s (including Burke23's Kobe RC Topps Chrome and 86 Barkley RC). Everything that was crossed from SGC crossed to the equal grade for PSA.

I've been having a lot of luck just doing the cross overs and not cracking lately, but historically cracking out did yield the better results.

    Justin,
All 14 crossed? Did you use minimum grade?

Yeah, I've tradiitonally done OK on cracks, but that's based on 7's and 8's so crossing over seems safer with these 96's.

    EDIT: All vintage BTW...

Yes, we used minimum grades on everything that was post 1964, and everything did cross. NQ was also requested on every card.

EDIT: I take that back. One card (modern - go figure?) was flagged as trimmed and stayed in a BGS 9.5 holder. Sorry bout that. Just reviewed the order again.

I think you have a better shot of going 10/10 on 9's if you go cross-over. Crack and submit gives you a higher likelihood of getting one to bump to a 10, but also gives you an even higher likelihood that at least one or two come back lower than 9. Assuming that you do not damage any cards during the cracking.

Any best practices on the MinGrade decision? A lot of folks suggest putting down 1 grade lower than the current grade, and say that giving PSA "room" will usually result in getting the grade you want.

I will just say I am o'fer on crossing sgc to PSA for an equivalent grade...half for questionable authenticity, half for min grade (out of 6 I think).
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.
