2012 NFL Rookie Potential - What do you think?

With the OTA reports coming in, I'm getting geeked for the 2012 season. I have a pre-order in for 2 Finest cases.

Looking at the rookie class, I give it a B- at this point. The top 2 QBs will get a lot of buzz, but I don't see either having a Cam Newton like season. Weeden may actually have the best rookie season of the all QBs taken.

Trent Richardson could be hot since the Browns fans are rabid and need a star to hang on to. None of the first round WRs interest me, I will probably sell them as soon as I rip packs. Blackmon is going to a horrible situation and the rest look like #2 or #3 WR at best,

My sleeper pick is Morris Claiborne (I know the 6th pick isn't a sleeper). I think the Cowboys hype machine will push his cards to almost offensive star levels.

Can't wait!
Mike

I can see richardson, luck, and RG3 cards getting hot but not any of the other rookies.

I see the RG3 and Luck cards hot early, but cooling off as reality of two very bad teams means little production. Of the two, I think RG3 has the best chance for immediate impact, long term I go with Luck.

Been since 2007 that both the first two QBs taken have completely flopped. I sense this could be the year. The NFL can't "win" every year with top-tier QBs coming out of the draft.

    2007 - 1st - JaMarcus Russell
    2007 - 22nd - Brady Quinn

    2008 - 3rd - Matt Ryan
    2008 - 18th - Joe Flacco

    2009 - 1st - Matthew Stafford
    2009 - 5th - Mark Sanchez

    2010 - 1st - Sam Bradford
    2010 - 25th - Tim Tebow

    2011 - 1st - Cam Newton
    2011 - 8th - Jake Locker

    2012 - 1st - Andrew Luck
    2012 - 2nd - Robert Griffin III

I don't agree these two QB's will be hot out of the gate, but the teams they are on will not help. As far as Morris Claiborne, defense players don't get the love in sports cards.

I wouldn't call Flacco or Matt Ryan a flop either.

    Edit: Nevermind, I misread you.

I would say the odds are pretty close to ONE of the top-two QBs taken this year being a bust. Which one, is a better question.

I said SINCE 2007 no top-two-QBs-taken have both flopped. I never said anyone but Russell/Quinn completely flopped.

Between the two, I would guess Andrew Luck. Kicking it at Stanford doesn't mean anything to me. It means you looked good among players that couldn't go to any of the top 25 college teams. Okay, that's a little rough, they do play the California teams which have been historically power houses, but with all the sanctions over there, hardly any top recruits would have went that way, or at least I wouldn't. It's not 2005 anymore.

I think the more I look at this years drafts, I want to go with Ryan Williams, the 2011 draft pick who didn't play.

You can make a solid argument that 2011 product is better than the upcoming 2012 product based on draft quality. Heck, I'm not even sure 2012 will be better than 2010. There will be HUGE buzz on Luck and RG3 going into the year. One or two impressive pre-season games and both of them will be going for big bucks.

It would be more confident if any of the top 4 QBs - Luck, RG3, Weeden, and Tannehill - played a few games against the SEC. USC was down in the Pac 10 and the Big 12 doesn't play pass defense.
