Had these been released as regular circulation pieces which would be obtainable at face value, it would have been much, much better to stomach.
They won;t even be in the Uncirculated sets.

Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.

Within an article for Coin Update, I have some quotes from Michael White of the US Mint Office of Public Affairs, which provide some indication of the US Mint’s motivation/intentions for the new products.
We were looking for a new numismatic product with an “S” mark. Feedback we had received from customers was that there was always great anticipation with products that had the “S” mint mark.
We felt that an “S” mint mark on America the Beautiful Quarters would bring some additional visibility to the program. A business case was developed that supported moving forward with the product. The quarters that will be produced will be circulating quality and sold as numismatic products.
-----------------
What were they thinking? Perhaps that these S Mintmark quarters would have as much desirability as previous S mintmarks coins?
A little research would have shown that the S Mintmarks were popular simply because a majority of the Collecting Community was and still is East of the Mississippi where low mintage S mintmarked coins rarely showed up. They were just flat out hard to find.
Im sure there'll be some immediate wave what with a new product and all but these coins will be just as "unavailable" as any other "circulation" quality ATB Quarters. Except that these will not be available at face value.

I stopped purchasing U.S. Mint modern products around 2005-2006.

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.might keep prices in line with the states quarters bag prices and in this economy and
the current mind set demand might be quite low and quality very high.
Of course if it plays out this way the mint won't make any money except to the degree
they can increase demand for the P & D issues. This willbe difficult to measure so the
program might not last long or be incorporated into the mint sets.
There are lots of rarities being created now days right under our noses and this could
be another one.

Incorporating these into mint sets would be my preference although having another 33 coin Mint Set will cause some squawking by Mint Set collectors.

I think it would be cool to do like they did with the 1974-S one cent coins; mix them in
with Denver production. They could make only a few million and most would get into cir-
culation giving everyone a chance of finding one.
It would certainly bring attention to the series.
Ill save my money for the 2013 ultra high relief proof SAE.

I totally agree but unfortunately the US Mint has Collectible Numismatic Dollar $igns in their eyes!

Similar to a total eclipse, didn't anyone warn Mint management NOT to look directly at "Collectible Numismatic Dollar $igns"?! - - it could cause permanent damage to their brain cells!!
If these coins are priced the same as the P and D collector rolls and bags, demand will easily exceed 1.4 million coins of each design. The S.F. mint will likely need to fire up the presses again.

<< <i>wouldn't these be half the price of the current rolls, since it is only one roll?

$18.95
The bags will be $34.95, same as the P and D.

<< <i>So how crazy would I have to be to buy some bags and spend them just to get some released into the wild? That's a ~10¢ surcharge per quarter ... >>
I was thinking the same thing so hopefully not that crazy
It would certainly make things more interesting for those collecting from change.
I always found it more fun to build some sets from change than buying from the Mint / secondary market (e.g. SHQs), but I can understand the desire to purchase from the Mint / secondary market as well. For some coins, that's really the only option.
