Opinions on this 1987 Maddux

I was able to purchase an entire set of 87 Donruss at a reasonable price and this was the Maddux that came with it. Let me know if you think it is worth grading or at least has a shot at a 9.

  • As long as the front is clean and the white marks are from the scanner and not on the card, a 9 is a safe bet.

On a side note, anyone ever notice his eyebrows on that card???

I had the #1 1987 Donruss registry set for a few years. It's likely a 9. Centering is great, see baseballs on side. It might be the scanner but it appears to have a little chipping on the top right and the top right corner doesnt appear perfect. Nothing to stop a 9 however.

However, isn't a 9 a break even with submission cost? I wouldn't submit a hopeful break even, unless you have personal reasons.

    I say 9 as well.
2.5 is pretty much my speed.
  • What is 4sc? (Pardon my ignorance).

Very nice centering but the upper-left corner concerns me. Buy a 9 from 4sc.

I did mean left in my comment, as that is where the chipping and slightly dinged corner appear. The slight chipping is likely going to hurt it as bad as the corner, due mostly to the black border, I imagine. PSA does however allow factory bent back corners (factory set cards) to get 10s, and that is no less distracting. I can still see the card in a 9 holder. Still, hardly worth the submission fee for a shot at basically breaking even.
