What program works best (if any) for purchase and sales of coins

Just curious: Does anyone use an "Excel" program for their record keeping?

Sure do. One sheet for my purchases/"inventory"/my collection (whatever I feel like calling it at the time) and then when a coin is sold I cut+paste it to a "sold" sheet.

    Excel? What's that?

I use VisiCalc on my TRS-80. Works great!

For ease of use, I use Excel, but for the complete collection and inventory I use ProCoin 2012.
I had ProCoin 2006 and it was ok, but 2012 is far better. JMO

yes, you have to design it yourself to suit your needs. It does all the calculations once you plug in the formulas. Excel is unforgiving if you make a mistake, best to exit without saving and then reopen.

I find that Excel works best for me. I can change it in any manner I choose, put logical IF statements in if I choose and generally track things according to my own desires. The only shortfall is linking pictures, but I can always do that in my registry inventory as I only collect PCGS graded coins, although I do have raw ones as well.

That said, I used excel extensively in my work and after almost 30 years of using electronic spreadsheets, I can get them to do most anything within their capabilities with regard to numbers. I once built a menu driven order entry system out of Lotus 1-2-3 for a manufacturing company back in the 80s.

Even without using all the sophisticated parts of Excel, I like the ability to customize it. You can segregate your collections using the tabs and keep different series separate and then aggregate them all on the front page so they update automatically.

What exactly do you mean as a "shortfall"? I have photos on my Excel inventory and sometimes several for particular coins.
I have probably misunderstood what you meant.
