Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
If you have high-quality stuff, the market right now is as strong as I have seen it in years. I think it's a great time to sell.

<< <i>I wanted to know if anyone thinks it is a bad time to sell before the National? >>
I think it's not an ideal time to sell - if you're selling high dollar cards, as there's been a ton of auction house auctions ending lately. I could be wrong, but I would think a lot of the big spenders are spent at the moment.

But a lot of those big spenders ended up in second place, and they're pissed. They want redemption. I know that's how I get when I lose out on a card I REALLY wanted. I almost always buy something else of comparable value soon after to ease the sting.
When I do it, it's of course on a much smaller scale than that of the hobby heavyweights.

Disregarding the high quality stuff, what about the run-of-the-mill stuff like 1950s-1970s HOFers in less than high grade? What do you think the market is for these mid-grade $20-50 cards?
And, I don't think the upcoming National has much of an impact on sales. JMO.
Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

I do the exact same thing - it's a very solid point.

Agreed. I have a lot of modern high end cards and PSA/DNA or UDA autos high end for sale...at least for high end the time to sell is now. Not sure about the future. I have people paying top $$$ BIN prices on ebay and did well with my SCP items paralleling the Dmitri Young auction. IMO, if you know exactly what you have, give it a shot to sell now.
Personally I buy nothing prior to the National or do any posting after the begining of May throughout the summer.I look forward to the National as it is the only show I attend throughout the year.

<< <i>An extremely small percentage of collectors go to national so I think that has absolutely no effect on sales. >>
I completely agree. I have been to several nationals on missions to fill out sets or get key cards. It much cheaper and easier to do online. I think of The National as a celebration of the hobby and a great oppurtunity to network with your fellow collectors.
On good / bad time to sell I think we are seeing the best times in cardboard in the past 5 years or so. Durring the recession its not that people were not interested in cardboard, they just didnt have the dispenseable income to buy.

Perfectly said. I sold up to the National and during that week. It is a very small percentage, and shouldn't effect sales one bit.
