Hoping to get some opinions on this peace dollar. It is in an NTC holder... Grade and toning opinions welcomed, thanks for looking!

Edit to add: The dark spot above the "9" is actually a lighting issues, it is toning similar to the other seen.

not sure i'd venture much above 63 here
toning way too subtle to really address

Interesting, it's sort of memorizing, but undecided. The cheek and neck bother me, but I like how the toning looks from I to y and hair. image

I'd need to see the obverse at a slightly different angle to see the colors a bit differently. Interesting for sure. As far as grade, maybe 63 on a good day, 62 on a bad day.

I looked at it under a glass and don't see any green spots.

That's an attractive Peace Dollar, with attractive, subtle toning.

    I would grade 63 with a shot at 64.
  • I like the obverse. The reverse kind of threw me. But I like the toning on the obverse just fine.

I'd give it at least a 64 and I like its subtle color.

Know what, that got me thinking.. I am All about the obverse.. Maybe a thread could start on the topic (obverse vs reverse) But as a rule obverse is always my primary focus, I won't even entertain a reverse toned coin, but if I see a coin with a beautiful Obverse but a fugly reverse, I don't like that either.. On the OP coin, The reverse wouldn't deter me as the obverse is growing on me and I see why it was purchased.

    I like it a lot.
The toning ( which is warm) is concentrated in the lower recesses of the coin design and add a dimension of depth.
I'm in the 62-63 camp on this one. I have to admit though, tht on first impression, i was leaning more towards a AU 58.
Very nice coin and thanks for sharing. Are yougoing to share the grade too?

Not much if any premium for toning.
But a very nice coin overall, I like how the toning enhances the observe.

I like her. Guessing the good folks at NTC gave her a 65 and if so they were only a point or two generous...

With the OP's permission obtained, here is another 1925 toner for comparison. It is in a NGC 66 CAC holder and has the similar die crack at the base of the neck:

My guess on the OP's coin is a 63.

Thanks for all the comments. Catbert that is a very nice peace dollar, thanks for sharing.
NTC graded this coin an MS65...Imo I think it has a shot as a 64 at PCGS...the luster is very nice. This goes to show that nice coins can be found in other than top tpg plastic.

    Hi,

Well, I am flying against the wind it seems - don't know how these generally look at 64 in 1925, but honestly this looks a problem coin to me. A hard sell. If the strike is good for the year, or even average...the color is weak at best (it appears brown, the most common"'color" on silver), the cut on the Obv in bad position...the Rev...I just don't see it as others are I guess.

    Best,
    Eric
