Texas Numismatic Assn Show report. Or, going to a coin show is like shopping at Costco

Costco is close enough that I can drop in and pick a couple of items without too much effort. The problem is, I can go in to buy a loaf of bread and spend $300. So today I go to the TNA show mostly to just look around and visit with a few folks I know. I do make a bit of an effort to look for Capped Bust Half Dimes, and I thought it paid off. Working under sub par lighting I spied a nice looking 1830 in AU. Under the trying conditions, I attributed it as an 1830 LM-5 which is quite rare and desirable especially in a unmolested AU55. I bought it and then wandered the aisles. Good traffic at the show and it seemed every dealer I encountered was nice, polite and willing haggle a bit. I mean it was very enjoyable, and the public was spending $$.

I was chatting with one of the dealers and he asked if I was interested in any toned Morgan Dollars. I'll always look, never knowing when desirability and price will converge at a point I find tolerable. I bought 2 PCGS (at Greysheet Ask) and 1 NGC at just a smidge above ask. Pictures below. All in all a fun day, and I think I'll go back tomorrow!

I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.

I like the color on the reverse of the 78-S.

It's nice to hear that there was good traffic at the show. Sorry I missed it this year.

So please, don't leave us in suspense. In your OP you said that "under the trying conditions, I attributed it as an 1830 LM-5". Did that attribution hold up under closer scrutiny? Is it, in fact, an LM-5? If so, what die state is it? Does it have the cud at *5-*6, or is it an early die state? Either way, in AU grade it is quite a find. Congratulations on a great pick ... assuming that it is an LM-5.
