Made two posts in comment section.. First Stacks/Bowers or Heritage Auctions would bring in more and got a thumbs down Second Been reported it could not be verified real and has been removed from auction. No one cared
It's funny...when I first saw it I thought...fake! But I assumed that if it was going on the auction block with a USD 4M estimate, surely it woudl have been authenticated.
I love the part about the "mold' being broken. Clearly, this is an auction house that has dealt with numerous numismatic items. I would certainly consign my $4M coin to them for sale.
What is incredible about finding an altered coin with an added mintmark? Unusual for a gold coin but fairly common for other denominations of coins.

Exactly.
In another bit of news, soon to be reported, the finder of this gem went on to find a Continental Dollar under the floor board of an old farmhouse which will be auctioned soon, also uncertified, by the same auction house.

Based upon certain characteristics I am 99% certain that the entire coin is counterfeit, but the date may have been altered and the mint mark added as well.

They will probably benefit from the additional publicity in any case.
