I had to take a long hard look, as the flatness to the middle and upper portion of the S along with the filled upper opening made it tough. I could not find any another die marker on my examples to compare to. I'm getting very picky, but I do not think it is the one. The middle portion of the S is too wide, even if a little flat. My examples are narrower and don't think a weak or flat strike would make the S thicker there. Another observation is the end of the top serif is fairly straight and looks to have a slight notch on it. My observation is that the end should be more rounded and no evidence of that notch. Also, I don't think PCGS will attribute this variety without some noticable separations of the S's. My opinion and hope I'm wrong as my guess is this example is in an MS66 holder?
looking at the picture i think it is just a blob of metal, but based on some of the grading results you've gotten from PCGS/NGC in the past i'll assume it is the RPM and will be designated as such. pictures are a poor way to grade coins.

It is a nice 54 S, I sent it in today as a S/S...would still like some opinions on the RPM..........thanks!

Thank you, from the pics I've seen I think it could be but with the flat looking upper part of the "S" it is tough to tell........
.......
It's raw....sent it out today for grade....
That sort of does look like a small twisted piece of metal or even thread

Not back from ATS yet but I just checked the grades...MS66 no mention of an RPM.
Is there a strike through issue with the reverse below the U and S in EPLURIBUS?
Struck thru.........
if it is an RPM i got rid of a lot of RPMs as I thought they were not!
