and really knows his leafs, another great guy was envoy, not sure if he posts much anymore.Good luck and
are you planning on doing master as well? A straight 5 set with best centering you can find would be a great set!
    Love the 48 set!

    Thanks JR

I am going to aim for the master set but I'm not in a hurry and as I can already tell, that is a good thing. Seems like its very slim pickings out there on Ebay right now and cards are either over priced or the cards get pretty competitive to win. I REALLY like the set. I like how many errors there are and all the variations keep it a lot more interesting than other more modern sets i've seen. All I've ever collected before has been 70's football so I didn't have a clue who any of the players are from the late forties. (I'm 28 yrs old). I've really enjoyed learning about all the stars from the 40's and i've been wikopedia'ing a bunch of the guys----pretty cool stuff. One thing that I really like is that three or four of the guys in the 48 set played their college ball at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. I grew up in Bloomington and currently live very close. Please don't laugh but I've been a life long Indiana Football fan. IU actually had some good players back then and had an undefeated big ten season with Pete Pihos and George Taliaferro. Anyways, back to the set. Did you completely build the set then sell it off or did you only get so far? I've enjoyed OTW's cards on his registry and would love any advice, help, etc. from him reccball and anyone else. My main goal for collecting these 48's is to #1 have fun, #2 I enjoy the history of the cards/players and #3 lastly maybe a far off hobby investment.

I am also collecting 1950 Bowman in PSA 7 but right now I am focusing on the 48's because they're SO cool! image

The market on the Leafs is pretty strong for higher grades. In the PSA 5 range, you should be able to find some nice buys on the common players. I'd focus on well centered cards and really make an effort to pay attention to eye-appeal. Just don't use SMR as a buying reference! The variations are out there, including some that are not listed. They tend to get pricey when in higher grade and some are even tough in PSA 5.

I've started a blog at www1948leaffootball.com that I've slowly been adding information and images to. Feel free to check it out as it may provide some reference outside the normal channels.

As far as finding cards outside of eBay, there are sellers, but prices tend to be a little steep and many are overgraded.

Good luck on the set. It is a fun and addicting issue, especially if you get involved with the variations and that is not even taking into account that there are grey and white or cream colored backs, too (my current project is getting each card with BOTH backs)!
