Bay Area news just did a blurb on the SF Mint

And the two new Silver Eagles in the upcoming set.

Apparently they struck them today!

Another thing they mention, which I though could be even more interesting, if true.

The SF mint is striking quarters FOR circulation this year! That's going to make the unc set a little more interesting this year!

Don't west point and SF often strike circulating coins while leaving off the mintmarks?

Perhaps, but all quarters have mintmarks (P or D) so if they left off a mintmark that would be really cool! BUT, the story mentioned that they would have an "S" mintmark.

It'll be interesting if the news has it right.

Yes they do. It seems like mintmarks are used more for creating (or not-creating) collector demand for coins than for identifying the mint where they were struck.

If some of the S and W mint circultation coins had mintmarks, they might have lower mintages than and compete against the premium "collector" coins.
