Purchasing Silver in Bulk

If one wanted to purchase silver in bulk, lets say 500 oz, what would be the best method. My parents are looking to make this purchase, my thoughts were a sealed monster box of ASE's. Anyone know reputable dealers online that wont charge too much over spot? Thanks for the help!

Many different silver selections, but you gotta buy quantity (500 or more ozs.)

I wire funds (6 boxes over the years) and never had a problem. Phone orders only. their website shows prices over spot at time of your call.

If it's for bartering, I would go with a giant batch of 90% US coins. Smaller denominations to trade for smaller items. Having a monster box of ASEs may be like walking around with nothing but $20s after SHTF. Better to be able to "make change".

Nothing wrong with a monster box if this is a hold and pass down silver batch. And nothing wrong with some bags of 90% for barter either. Both have their perks and issues.
  • 100 oz. 90% U.S.
400 oz in brand name 10 oz. bars ie Johnson Matthey, Engelhard

I agree with this idea. Tulving is the best in terms of cost & service, as long as the order is large enough to meet their minimums, which this does. Not a bad time to add some silver, imo.

They own plenty of small denomination 90% silver. They are looking for a large amount and I believe it is more a hold and pass down situation.

Thank you all for your comments, appreciate it

Agreed. Not trying to time the market but will wait a few days until we place the order to see if a support forms at the 27.50 + level.

    Thanks again all

    Extended afterthought question?

Why not base silver which is cheaper, like apmex or sunshine bars or generics of 'mixed and cheaper' higher weights.
How come the extra cost of higher premium vs the cheaper?

(In tough times or SHTF, I don't see getting the prem back on more expensive brands.
And if it's good times I think the base brand bars will sell. More quantity for the buck too, right?)

Keep in mind that spot prices are determined by paper trading. Premiums are the extra you pay for the real McCoy. Premiums vary with the quality and demand for the various McCoys. More demand (and higher premium) usually means more potential buyers when you decide to sell.

Silver Eagles are probably the most easily-liquidated silver there is, and they are in nicely-divisible units. That's always worth a premium.

Bars are ok, and you may feel that you're getting a bargain. Sometimes it is a bargain, and sometimes it isn't. Bars require some expertise on the part of both buyer and seller.
