Dmitri Young is making a killing on the Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks!!!

I took these from the online SMR.

A PSA Gem Mint 10 Aaron rookie sold for $110,000 and another for $90,199 in 2004

A PSA Gem Mint 10 Banks rookie sold for $39,547 in 2005

I have to think that he is going to do very well with the return on the sale of this amazing collection.

I remember reading in the SMR article that he paid $45,000 for the Al Kaline and that was the last card he bought on his own. It looks as if he will recoup his costs on that card and perhaps even still make a profit.

Does anyone have any sales data on the Clemente rookie that is at $223,887 right now? I have to assume he is doing well on that one too.

i think i read somewhere he paid like 150K for the clemente?

surprised the 1/1 Yaz is only 24K

My source close to the situation said Dmitri paid 175k for the Clemente and 250k for the Aaron. I believe he purchased the Clemente well before the Aaron. He will make a great return on the Clemente. The Aaron will be an interesting one to watch. I've been watching this SCP auction since it's started. Now we're in the last few days and I've prepared the popcorn.

I have been checking the auctions throughout the day since they started. There are a lot of cards that are going to get some late action I would think.

If he bought the Aaron for $250k he will most likely still make some money but nothing like the prices I posted if that is indeed the purchase price.

I guess in reality he may have purchased the Banks from whomever paid $39k for it but since it is a Pop 1 I figured he was the buyer.

I don't collect baseball cards anymore but I think the prices being realized show two things. The market likes PSA graded cards and there is a very strong high end baseball cards collector base.

These will all be fun to watch for sure.

Anyone know why he's selling? I know he's battled some demons in the past...I hope he's doing OK.

He said in an interview that he has accomplished what he set out to do and wants to use the proceeds for a baseball school I believe. Let me try and find the article that was on Yahoo.

He's donating the proceeds to help build parks in the town he grew up in, or a baseball school.

"So when Horton's PSA 9 card popped up on eBay for $400, buying it was a no-brainer. Young sent it to PSA three times, asking that they bump it up to a 10. The third time they did."

So WTF? All I have to is ask PSA nicely 3 times and they'll bump all my 9's to a 10? ;-)

Sources close to the situation have informed me that Dmitri may take the proceeds from the sale of his amazing collection and start purchasing 1982 and 1983 Wrestling cards. This will be a very exciting time for the entire industry.

The prices are starting to move big time!

Pete Rose up to $131k before the premium. This is going to be fun to watch as it comes down to the wire.

  • Hey Dpeck, mind throwing a few links to some of the auctions?

I just have to say wow on a $9000 (pre juice) Henderson... Dang... Just Dang.

Earlier, I had a funny feeling that the Rose would wind up fetching more than the Clemente or the Aaron. However, after closer inspection I'm actually surprised that the Rose was graded a 10. Appears to have several printing marks and I see white on both the top left and top right corner. If that card was from 86 Fleer basketball, it would be sitting in an 8.0 holder with those white corners.

    << <i>Derek Jeter >>

Someone is seriously kicking themselves in the azz for selling that card to him (via Bailey) for $6K... Heavy sigh . . . but then again, I got nearly 20x what a 9 was going for and I'm quite happy with sweet 9's at a fraction of the price.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Wow Scott that is pretty cool to be able to say that was your card. I am sure you did quite well on the card too. Hindsight is always 20/20.

  • Astonishing prices.

After the dust settles with all of this I think this will help the industry. Just an overall sence of collecting/investment. There's no way to really track it, but I can see the $50-$200 per card collector getting into 4 figure range. My gut says this will boost the cardboard economy.

And I can see that Jeter going for 25K.

    Amazing cards.

If you had to guess what kind of price would that card bring?

good question......according to VCP info, it's been several years since a Gem Mint 10 sale has been recorded for that card.

    i'll say $400.

There seems to be a lot of cards like this that should get a nice boost into the close.

This is the first time I have followed an auction like this from start to finish and if an EBAY auction is similar the pace that many are moving up tells me we will see some explosions at the end.

Hmm, he just bought one of my cards. Maybe he's cashing out the super-high grade stuff and buying the cards back 1 grade lower?
