German Medal Newp... I liked the design and pulled the trigger! "6/9/12 Update with images by m

I really liked the obverse design of both the snake and wreath around around the bust.

This example below just had a lot of other things going for it which appealed to me... 209 years old, silver, gem bu, nice patina.

Enjoy! image

Thanks as that was the reason I bought it... As eye appeal wise it really does a lot for the overall design image

I liked the design and pulled the trigger!

Best reason evah to add a piece to your collection!

Very interesting design for an otherwise fairly pedestrian commemoration. I imagine the recipient was delighted and wish I'd seen it first! Congrats...

So the medal arrives and I'm opening the package in the post office parking lot and my jaw dropped as I saw it in hand...

As the obverse/reverse fields were completely mirror proof-like and there was an abundant amount of colorful patina I knew I could never capture.

So it was mailed off to photographer member Messydesk and I just received the results.

Wow. I imagine the bidding would have been more intense if the auction pics looked like that.
Messydesk is one of my favorite photographers and that is one very nice medal.
    Congrats again.

It's a very cool medal. The high relief obverse is screaming for me to shoot a stereo picture of it. Perhaps I'll do that before I send it back.

This is one super medal!!!!!!!!! congrats...image
it can be found in these catalogs: Jungk 25, Sommer A 110.
and the designer is von Loos
    issue weight is 28.5 grams
    diameter is:44.5 mm
    letters are over 11 lines
I know of one in about XF.. asking price is about $ 200. But, what a difference.....

If it is ok, I would like to make a correction:
This medal has nothing to do with any Postal service.
the three words SIM HERM POST are names.
the medal is to honor the 50 years of services as a sort of an Alderman for the city of Bremen.
    His name is
    Simon Hermann Post

Wow. NGC really blew the attribution, as that's what they put on the slab label. It really didn't make a lot of sense when I read the inscription, but I don't have any references. I'll fix the caption.

Thank you YQQ as I knew it was issued to Simon Hermann but did not realize that Post was part of his name. Now I'm able to find the following as it's actually Simon Hermann von Post who was awarded public recognition by Bremen legislature in 1803 for 50 years of service as their archivist. Based on the initials on the neck the engraver may have been second generation medalist Friedrich Wilhelm Loos. Is this below the other example you've seen?
