Guy buys some GSA memorbilia(original reciepts) from me via ebay. I ship it in a stiffend /harder cardboard mailer. Guy files a not as described , becuase he cut open the package and sliced thru the material. He states this in his email to me thru ebay messaging system, wants me to give him a refund. Ill probably lose this becuase the way ebay is, but i am fighting this on pure principal.

Keep all correspondence through eBay messages and good luck with the fact that some people just shouldn't be people.

    .
that is unfortunate. you may desire to add a note to the cardboard holder next time alerting the buyer not to cut

Who knows what ebay will do but they "should" side with you and remove the neg your going to get,as the evidence is clear.Buyer's fault.

If he admitted to damaging it in an email, I think you have a good case based on "clear cut" stupidity on part of buyer.

I can see it from both angles, could it have hurt to put them in a 50c comic Mylar for protection? Seams that he is either over zealous or the package was poorly set up. Most likely a combination but with Ebay the tie goes to the runner (cash carrying buyer)

Tell ebay that you will be happy to refund, per policy, upon return of item(s) in
    the original condition.

  • I've accidentally sliced stuff I've purchased before. I didn't blame the Seller.

Eesh. Fight the good fight, and I feel for you.

I've done the "slice through a purchase" bit myself. First 6-7 notes of a BEP pack of Barr notes.

How screwed in the head must someone be in order not to just curse themselves, laugh and move on with life. I fear it is a social disorder at this point.

This! I too have been guilty of doing such things, alas I was to blame and I never pounded it out onto the seller to refund me for my carefree opening of the package.

    Good luck!!!

How does carelessly opening a package and damaging the contents make the item "not as described"?

On the bright side I suppose, it was just some GSA memorabilia and not an original Renoir canvas.

Just another fine example of the whole no-personal-responsibility-whatsoever mentality; someone else has to pay for my mistakes. And the sad part is that Ebay will likely give the bleeding idiot his money back. If I were the buyer and had just done a boneheaded thing like that, I wouldn't even consider asking someone else to pay for my screwup much less file a SNAD over it.

unfortanatly not everyone works the same way you and many others do around here image
  • It is amazing, but somehow not totally surprising, that someone wants you to pay for their mistake. Too few people own up to their actions.

If I bought a paper item, I would not assume it was sheathed in cutproof material. I would open it very carefully. I think the buyer is at fault here. good luck!
