Didn't quite realize the Silver Bulk issue

tneigtneig Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭
I'm only starting and the bulk issue just started affecting me. Had some in the house here and there. Broke down and got a safety deposit box, and will need some better safes. Doah! Gets expensive. Filled that safe deposit box up to the top first visit. Yikes. Have to start thinking down the road for the bulk issue. Building plenty of 1oz bars and rounds now, so going to look at 10oz+ deals for a bit now, and considering more G. I may consider burying some. Any downsides of bigger silver sizes, later on at sell time? Other advice?

Yep.. That is one reason why I've preferred 10 oz bars to 1 oz rounds/coins, they stack much easier in SDBs. Though 1 oz bars aren't bad either, if there's no airtites or mint sealed packaging bulking them up.

If you have more silver weight than you can carry by yourself, switch to gold and platinum, as others have said

when you have as much of those as you can carry, switch to solid numismatic coins

when you have as much of those as you can carry by yourself, Cash out some, Carry the rest to the Carrybean island,

Silver is great, but if you have to move in a hurry..... gold is better. Try carrying a master box of silver around the block. The same dollar amount in gold is alot easier to carry. image

and a good, monitored home alarm system and sealed lips. Word of what is in the house from somebody you know to somebody you don't know creates most PM home thefts.

I'm with you there. I have a decent amount of silver in my sdb. However, whenever the ratio gets, say maybe under 35:1, I'll convert silver to gold. Until then, I just get a nice workout when I visit my sdb. image

Forget the PM's. Edvard Munch's painting "The Scream" just sold for $119 million. That's 4,000,000 ounces of silver.

Nope..... it's 2012 in Texas. Hurricanes.... major flooding....massive forest fires. My philosophy is "get out of the way".... but don't leave valuables to be looted. (Including safe deposit boxes)

Gold might be worth more than silver right now, but who knows if that ratio might one day be reversed..... Anyway, it's not that hard to carry 10,000 ounces on a hand truck to your vehicle, and it doesn't take up THAT much space...

    Ha, yup!

Unfortunately, we'll have to be long dead and have famous personal ticks/demons or some crazy early death scenario to get into the 7 figure club. Life labor of love though.
