Opinions on this 1964 Mantle "HIGH GRADE"

First off....I'm asking for someone to link this auction. EBAY Auction # 140704539912. Thank you in advance to the nice person who links it for me.

I've looked at this card a million times. Are folks thinking that this card is altered in some way? Nice scan. I'm not sure what to think of the card. Opinions appreciated.

Thanks,
Mickey71

Looks pretty solid. Very clean borders (much better than many PSA 8s I have seen). The SGC holder looks intact and
the flip # is not from a range that I recall being questionable.

Price for an SCH-holdered card seems a little heavy. Knowing that PSA is tough on cross-overs I'd guess it would
cross at an 8 (if it crosses) due to the T/B centering. The other thing to watch for is MINSIZREQ. I've seen a number
of SGC 92s that PSA wouldn't cross due to this issue.

    Hope that is useful.

What is so special about this card? It's priced $140 over VCP in SGC 8.5 and $250 over VCP in PSA 8 . Am I missing something?

    Corvette,
Was asking members' opinions about the card. You just stated yours. You do not think the card is special. I wanted to see if anyone saw something that I didn't.

Print mark in right side border? Maybe a little too low-centered for 9?
Does the Mantle have one of those cartoon scenes on reverse that were intended to be scratched/revealed w a coin, and if so has it been scratched?

It's a nice 64, Danny--though I think it's overpriced. The SGC holder doesn't look compromised. Without having a closeup of the front and back it's nearly impossible with that pic to determine if it has wrongly holdered due to trimming.

If tried crossing at PSA, I think an 8 is the best you would get. While the corners, edges, and centering are nice for the grade, the printing and registration isn't great on this card, which many times is the difference between a 9 and 8.

Kind of looks like there is a small ding on the bottom left corner if you use the zoom feature.

I was just asking if I had missed something because you asked if people were thinking it was altered in some way. If it were priced at $700 I might be inclined to think that it may be altered in some way, but with the way it's priced I don't know why people would question it. At $950, even if it crosses to PSA 8.5, you still only make around $100 after fees and if it crosses to an 8 then you lose $300. If you keep it in it's holder and pay $950 then it's way overpriced, imo.

8.5 is right on the money, IMHO. A beautiful Mantle, but not mint.

    My opinion:

    Centering 8.5
    Corners 9
    Edges 9
    Surface 8 (print dots)

    I'd say it crosses to:

    PSA 9 maybe 10%
    PSA 8.5 maybe 20%
    PSA 8 maybe 60%
Min Size or sheet cut... 10%

  • 8 - 8.5 is fitting and I love the card

If you love the card ... Difficult with Mantle, but make an offer of a more reasonable amount. For sellers with pristine feedback, like this one,
I've offered to pay by check/M.O. to save fees in the case that the listing just happens to end by accident. image It's accepted more often than not if my experience.

    Good Luck
