Barbers are Dead!!!

dogwooddogwood Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭✭
11 days without a ttt of any thread with the word Barber in it according to a cursory search.
That Zoom of the engines that kept the True Believers going into the next race is silenced.
Bam! those newp 93-s halves that kept being posted...
Pow! those tales of the perfect 05-o...
The chase
The hunt
The score
The hunger
Dead. Barbers are dead.
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.

  • Barbers are quit ugly IMHO. However, they do spark a slight interest in me due to the age, mint mark varities, and lack of available nice collector stuff (VF+ to AU). I think Barber collectors are also have more patience than I due to the good stuff be hard to come by.

Can't say the Barber Market is "dead" but it could be busier.
There is a BST out there which is not getting a whole lot of play.

I know lots of Barber collectors who love them the same as always. I will say a lot of the side show might have died down a bit now that everyone knows that the price guides are/were off and the over all price run up has leveled off from the past decade. Now it is more collectors than speculators and fan boys.

Barbers have the problem of being followed up by the Mercury Dime, the Standing Liberty quarter and the Walking Liberty half-- all way better designs, IMHO. And let's not even go into the buffalo nickel.

Dogwood, not dead just being stealthy right now from my perspective. Mike and I are busy pulling together our materials for the week-long Barber class we are teaching during week 2 of the ANA Summer Seminar for week 2. So we have literally had our heads in the books so to speak. The class is going to be a blast, and we have some great information to pass on to those attending. We have enough signed up that the class is definitely a go but there are a small number of spots available still. If you haven't been to Summer Seminar you should really experience it. There are numerous classes from different levels of grading, to making hobo nickels, to the first ever Barber class! image

It's a week of 24/7 coins and something I personally look forward too for months.

We are going to have fun, and I promise you I will learn as much from the attendees in the class as I will teach to them. It's been awhile since I have taught at Santa Rosa City College so the excitement of doing a class again about something I am passionate is just awesome.

A fun week of numismatics in a beautiful corner of the world in Colorado.

Had my head buried in the books so that's my excuse. image

My BST on Barbers is picking up,
So they are not dead, just snoozing.

Glenn: looking forward to see what
"goodies" you'll bring to the Seminar.

I hope the overdate proof Dimes are
on your list. Maybe some proof Halves too ??

I've never been very fond of Barbers. But I have to admit that a gently circulated one can be very pretty. One of the few I own...

Tough coin in that grade and look, lance.

Glenn, Colorado in the summer is awesome. Barbers would just add to the awesomeness.

Of course y'all know I was just being cheeky with this thread, trying to stir it up a bit.
There have been some new barber posters on the Mega Thread, recharging the juices.

    Barbers are alive.

    Happy collecting!

It's a killer date, always has been, always will.

I have owned a few and my most recent purchase
was priced 3X Trends. I thought I'd be buried in it,
